springfield museum

This free spot is a surprising find in Springfield's downtown. It was interesting to us that our family who lives here was unaware of the museum. It's small but very well done. There are little search and find activities for the kids, lots of old photos and info from the area and a small gift shop. We enjoyed the second floor exhibits. There's a great hand-made dollhouse, as well as old appliances, old mill equipment and even a Simpson couch for photo opportunities. Our visit here gave us new things to research and read about - re Agnes Steward and the Lost Wagon train. I'm not given the option of having a family with young kids and teens - but we did and found something to enjoy. This was a great way to spend a few hours in Springfield.

Took my seven year old son and it was small enough he was not bored. Interesting history about Springfield. We will be back

Like the upstairs historical Springfield items. Not to fussed about the Art show too many posters to read and not enough hands/eyes on in the gallery. Great Director and fun to talk with and had great kbowledge.

First floor exhibit was on schooling in early days of Springfield. Upstairs was a number of artifacts and an excellent video on the history of Springfield.

Jack from Sweety's Frozen Yogurt across the street from the museum is what we noticed first. He has a full Simpsons display outside his store. He is friendly and enthusiastic. He sent us over to the museum. Great guy! Go to Sweety's!

What do you expect in Springfield, OR? People put lots of love and energy into this place. And the Simpsons-Sofa is a real must-see!

This is a small museum located downtown Springfield. I especially enjoy that the venue changes frequently. Volunteers provide enthusiastic conversation and exhibits are always interesting. The Simpson display makes a camera a must!Free but donations appreciated.

This museum is not very big but has interesting collections and displays. It is located in a fine old brick building downtown and is worth a look.

This is so cute. They have the Simpson couch to have your picture with the Simpsons. They claim to be the real Springfield and I believe them. There is a nice story about the history of the town. Everyone was very friendly. Nice stop on a Saturday when we needed something to do as we passed through town.

In the third story, there are statues of the entire Simpson's family that are fun for photo ops. I was pleasantly surprised at all the fu. Things to read in this cute little museum. The art was excellent too!

Being new to the area, it was great to get a feel for the local history and the lay of the land and cultures. We like museums overall and this was great because it was free and right near the library and civic center. Very friendly staff and great pictures of the Springfield of yesteryear.

While Springfield's little museum is small, we're pretty durn proud of it!The ground floor of the old electrical transformer building features a totally eclectic variety of (approximately) month-long theme exhibits. Past exhibit themes include Carousel Horses, Kodak's contribution to photography, Quilts, Military Memorabilia, HDR Technology Photographs, theater and ballet costumes, etc. Because of this continuing variety of exhibits, I visit the Springfield Museum multiple times each year.However, my favorite part is the second floor (stairs or elevator accessible) that is a permanent display of things relevant to the early days of Springfield and the surrounding area. And, "Yes", Homer Simpson and his family are up there to invite you to sit on their couch in their hometown, the REAL Springfield.Museum Director, Jim Cummins and his staff of friendly volunteers are always ready to answer questions.And, best of all, as of the beginning of 2013, there is NO admission fee. Donations into the "fishbowl" by the door are encouraged and appreciated. Free on-street parking and a large, city-owned parking lot next door make your visit to the museum convenient and the variety of nice, near-by eateries make "lunch and a museum" a great way to spend a few hours in Downtown Springfield.

That's what folks used to say, and when it comes to museums this one fits!It isn't going to take all day to view all the displays and this may be a great experience for the very young, the disabled and elderly.Wonderful history of the area and exhibits that change in variety,skill, and always enticing me to come see what's new!

We went to the museum to see The Simpsons exhibit and all we found was ONE thing to do with them! The rest of the museum was very nice but very very small. The first floor had very nice art pieces and the 2nd floor had more stuff for kids but still had to be very careful not to break anything. Wasn't the best place to take a child.
