We made the drive out to the town and looked around.....it is not a place that we will go back to and make the drive....Some interesting buildings though.

OK . when you are in central Nevada you need to go visit Sheriff Stone and Red Dog Lil . It is off the beaten path but well worth the trip . Be sure you have time to stay awhile so you can learn some of the history and do some exploring . There are many places to explore . Ask Sheriff Stone about the fossil beds . You can rent Miners cabins and stay for a few days . That way you have plenty of time to explore . They also have RV hookups . Have fun !!! I always do !

This ghost town is well worth the trip! The locals are as colorful as the town's past! The bar is full of stories and the bartender is welcoming! You can stay in the town, just email and they will accommodate you. It is a ghost town, so do not expect 5 star. It is the Wild West after all! Enjoy!

Sheriff Stone and his lady Lil are pretty much the welcoming committee and local government for what was once a going gold mining town with a current population of maybe 25 souls. They hold any number of special events with a bar and restaurant but one can visit just about any time. If you want to hold a wedding or other event, give them a jingle and discover how accommodating these great people can be. Get on their email list and receive quite a newsy newsletter with historical facts, current events and more.

What a great place to see. Started out by contacting Sheriff Stone via e-mail to see what would be open. He said to come on out and he would show us the town. What a great place. He showed us some of the cabins they rent out (very rustic but nice) and he also showed us the saloon (amazing). My husband and I drove all around the area. It is a good road we took our 4 door sedan and all was fine. Pack a lunch and enjoy the sights you wont be disappointed.

We stayed in November together with a fairly large off roading group. Sheriff Stone is a great host, kind and genuinely appreciative of the visit to 'his town'. The cabins are spread out and the surrounding area desolate, but what a great experience had by all.

Fancy experiencing the life of a cowboy, a ghost hunter, a gold miner? Then go to Gold Point! This criminally overlooked gem in the Nevada desert will blow your socks off. It receives very few tourists because it is quit remote, but let me tell you it is WELL WORTH a visit! You'll have practically the whole place to yourself.We shot a movie here last September 2012 called 'Bruno & Earlene Go To Vegas' and it was just so perfect in a hundred different ways. It really is like going into a time warp - you won't want to leave.The wonderful Herb and Sandy saw to all our needs, while Walt at the saloon will regale you with some great stories. The food Sandy and Herb cooked up was delicious and wholesome. Honestly, this place is dripping with so much character I cannot recommend it enough.As for the cabins, they were cosy and warm and welcoming. OK so a few mod cons were missing, and not all of them come with en suite bathrooms, but hey you're in the middle of the desert so what do you expect!I have been to Gold Point twice and will certainly be going back :)

This is much better than Bodie. The owner is really cool, and the buildings look more "real". You can rent a cabin here as well - they make you feel like you are visiting in the 1940's. I'm in my 50's, but visited with old college bud's on a motorcycle trip. Fantastic place!

My boyfriend and I visited Gold Point in September 2012. When you first step into Goldpoint it feels as if you've steppd back in time to a real old west ghost town. The Town is beautifully restored by Sheriff Stone, his lady Sandy and numerous volunteers. Sheriff Stone and Sandy are a couple of the nicest people we have ever gotten the pleasure to meet. We stayed overnight in the lagest cabin (also the only one with running water). Sheriff Stone and Sandy invited us for dinner in their home, it was some of the best home cooking I've ever had(They bake their own bread and churn their own icecream). Over dinner Sheriff Stone and Sandy filled us in on the history of Gold Point. It was all so interesting. The next morning we joined them for breakfast in their home again (lots and lots of food) then Sheriff Stone gave us a grand tour of the town. My favorite part was the Saloon! I would deffinetely go back again. Sheriff Stone and Sandy didn't treat you like just another visitor, they treated you like family.

Spent about 45 minutes visiting with Colleen, a retired teacher, now resident. She told us history and stories. Very interesting place well worth the trip.

This is not for the faint of heart. This is a Ghost town with ghosts. For years I had been going to this little town located on a road to Big Pine, Cailfornia from State highway 95 and it still hold a fascination for me. To stay at the ghost town you must make reservations as Sherill Stone and Red Dog Lil do prepare some of the best meals you can find anywhere. If you are lucky to be there when they have their Prime Rib, you will think you are in one of the finest dining rooms around. The atmosphere is rustic (just as it would have been in the days of the old miners) but the warmth that you feel is almost overwhelming. The cabins look like the miners just left them, from the outside, but go inside and you will find a nice cozy room. No indoor plumbing but still a fun place to stay. Sheriff Stone loves to talk about the history and again if you ask, you can get a tour of the place. During Memorial Day Weekend the place is poppin... with people. A lot of dry camping and great food and entertainment. It took me about a year of hearing "ya gotta go to Gold Point" before I actually went. Now it is hard to keep me away... One of the times I was there was in 2009 when my husband and I got married there . OH did I tell you? Red Dog Lil is a minister and she does do weddings.

Sheriff Stone and Red Lil go out of their way to make people feel welcome, even when inundated by an amount of people that swell the population (temporarily) to 10x it's norm. Interesting history and ghost tales!

This is the closest thing you can find to an unrestored ghost town (spell that authenic!) and actually be able to rent a cabin and spend a few nights.Our group did just that on Easter weekend of 2012. We all rode in (Harleys) from various locations throughout California and Ariz. We had four cabins and the Radke House so we were able to view them all.It was quite an experience that we'll not soon forget. I'd recommend it to anybody looking for an old west ghost town experience or just a place away from it all.The road is paved all the way to the town but much of the town is on dirt roads. No charge if you're just visiting for the day however, you may want to pack a pic-nic lunch and bring drinks. If you're renting a cabin or RV space then there is a dinner available for a nominal fee and breakfast is included in the cabin rent.We wish we'd have spent more time checking out the town rather than hurrying off to Death Valley for the day. Guess we'll have something to do on our next trip to Gold Point, Nevada!

A must see when you're in the area. We emailed ahead so we would have someone to meet us an tell us about the local attractions. A high ground clearance vehicle is needed to explore the gold mines and petroglyphs. Bring drinks, snacks, and a camera. There are outhouses across the street from the saloon.
