Maybe its because i went during the week, but not what i expected. Don't get me wrong it was cool to see all the old style buildings and how the way of life was back then. I suggest going on a weekend so you can get more out of the experience.

Some old buildings and some nice antiques. It is free to visit. Like another reviewer stated, this is a frontier town sitting in the owner's backyard. I wouldn't go out of my way to see this.

Dobby's is a great place for a morning or an afternoon. All of the buildings are ACTUAL buildings representing a time gone by. Not all the buildings were from the Alliance area, but they were all actual buildings used for the various shops, post office, medical building, etc. Bring your water, the day we visited it was hot and windy! Definitely worth the drive from Alliance.

This "town" consists of many old buildings that have been moved from other sites, plus some that have been constructed in old style in order to represent particular town functions (and to hold collected artifacts). It is a slow paced pace to be explored at leisure; someone volunteered to guide us, so we learned a lot, but there isn't a lot of explanatory signage. This easterner came away with an extra appreciation for the west and the settlers' ingenuity and grit.

With all the rushing around today and the focus on electronic gadgets, it was nice to be able to go someplace that focused on the simpler times of days past. We visited on a Sunday so we weren't sure if they would be open. When we arrived we were greeted by Craig, the "Sheriff" of the town. He is also responsible for much of the construction. ( Hard to believe this was a no charge attraction. They do have a place where you can give a donation, but there was no push at all to do so. They rely on donations to keep it going). Sheriff Craig spent over 2 hours with us, giving us a tour of every building in the Town. There was authentic "stuff" everywhere you turned. The General Store looked like it was still in business with shelves stocked with cool old items. The Saloon was cool with a real section of bar out of an old local Saloon. The jail was a must see, and the bank contains teller windows that were once breached by the infamous Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid. There is there original cabin of a former slave Robert Anderson, a gas station, a cobbler shop, a dress shop, a print shop, etc. We were traveling with our three teenage kids and they all found it extremely interesting. Thanks again to Sheriff Craig for taking time out of his "fence mending" to give us a tour of Dobby's.

Dobby's Frontier Town sits on the north edge of Alliance, NE. This non-profit organization is giving a glimpse into the past, using some buildings that have moved to the site, and some buildings built in a rustic fashion to represent the frontier life. This attraction is free to visit, but donations are certainly welcome, as donations fund the future development of the new buildings.Dobby's Frontier Town began as one man's quest to save a vanishing piece of history before it was lost. Kenneth Dobby Lee's personal journey helped save nineteen buildings from a bygone era. Caring for this town has been a family's way of life for many years, but is now being passed on to a wonderful group of volunteers who hope to preserve this era of history for many years to come.

I've heard they have made many improvements since my visit here. It is a great place to get some neat photographs. Your experience may be better than average, depending on what time of year you go and if there are any events going on at the time.

you wil not "walk the streets of a frontier town" - you will however walk through someone's backyard and look at the homemade structures. Seriously, skip this

Dobby's Frontier Town has improved greatly since I wrote my last review. This is a project in process. Since I wrote my last review, the group in charge has finished four new buildings and has really shaped things up! They just got done having their annual Fall Festival which is truly a great treat. You will not believe the action, food, and fun that takes place. Plan a visit for next September to take in the festival. This coupled with the attractions in the area are well worth visiting!

A great labor of love and an interesting slice of frontier life. Definitely worth the stop to tour the buildings and get a taste of earlier times...their fall festival always offers a full experience with many talented people offering their skills to bring the frontier town to life!

visited off season. like a little ghost town - kind of scary and melancholy. ran away screaming after seeing mannequin face in bar window.

If you are into history and fun this is the place to go! This is a great educational stop for kids and adults alike. The "town" was started in 1987 by Dobby Lee and he had the foresite to start preserving local buildings and antiques, collecting them and assembling them on 25th Street in Alliance. If you can make it to Alliance during the Fall Festival, it will be a timethat you will not forget! The volunteer group of Dobby's Frontier Towners makes the two day Fall Festival an unforgetable adventure. This usually takes place the third weekend in September and 2012 will be their 25th Anniversary.
