And beautiful. Take your RV's and campers or go for the day and picnic. Lake Ogallala is very near Lake McConaughy and it is just lovely, green, nice shade trees. In that area there are often Eagles, so take your camera. A big dam is right near there. A lovely setting, a lovely area, and you may need to make reservations for your RV - but it is never a crowded feel, never. Love it there.

Love it! Great lake and mostly all families with small kids so everyone was friendly and the kids all played together nicely. Will definitely be back!

We camped at Lake Ogallala last summer and thought the camp grounds was really nice. Lots of trees & the sites are big for kids to run around. The showers were clean too. It is next to a farm field and so both mornings we were woken up by cows but we didn't mind as we brought ear plugs. The cows come right up to the fence so it was fun to show our little one a cow up close. The previous summer we stayed at Lac Mac on the beach and it was a big mistake. The wind picked up at night and blew down our tents. I seriously thought there was a tornado but come to find out that is the normal for Lake Mac. Staying at Lake Ogalla we were not bothered by the wind. We did go to Lake Mac just to hang out at the beach and got a couple hours in with out the wind but it did get windy to the point we could not enjoy it. Next time we will camp at Lake Ogalla again and maybe plan on visiting Lake Mac a couple different days as someone told us they had a great day at Lake Mac but the next 2 were too windy! Bring bug spray too for your campsite to spray the perimeter & your tents. The first night we were fine but the 2nd night there must have been a hatch and there were bugs everywhere to the point we just went in our tents. Other campers said it was really out of the norm but expect more bugs being close to the lake and that farm field.

Lake Ogallala is a nice quiet place to swim, fish have a fun day. But, you really need to spend some time at Big Mac. This huge lake is on the west side of the dam. It's huge with huge sandy beaches great for swimming & the kids will love. There are ample camp sites. The fishing is great. Warning. If you are fishing in a boat & the wind comes off you need to get to shore quickly as the water gets rough. This is a great place to spend te day or a week. Ogallala in only 9 miles south so you can get supplies.

White sand and great waves!! Lots of campers... Access down to the lake only by 4-wheelers or tractors?? we saw a lot of them.. Campers need to pick up their trash... The sign says it all...leave only your footprints... A must stop for the family!!

It's only 15 minutes north of the interstate and the greatest view you will have for hundreds of miles. stop. rest. breathe. You won't be disappointed.

Lake Ogallala is right behind the Kingsley damn, and is a great place to be one with nature. It has great campgrounds and fishing galore. If your wanting to see snadhill cranes come here between January and March.
