Friends and families love this place and all that gather have their pace. From sipping to swirling it doesn't matter, their Nebraska wines go down fine. Whatever tickles your taste buds, you'll find here, from dry to sweet (they have no beer). The scenery is beautiful and trails to stroll, through the field s of vineyards that make it whole. Sit a while and relax a bit, for life is short...and this is it!
My wife and I met some of her friends at this vineyard for her friend's birthday. We weren't sure if the vineyard was going to have food and were we pleasantly surprised! They had grilled salmon and other such grilled items along with their normal cheese baskets. We ordered the couples cheese basket and we were able to share that with our friends as well. The live band they had playing was absolutely perfect for the atmosphere of sunset and whatnot. It was a busy night but overall, I would go back again for the tastings and the cheese baskets as well as the live music. The wine selections were a hit as well being as how we were able to taste 6 types of wine at 1 ounce of each.
I used to like coming out to JAV but after my last experience I will never be back. We had planned to start our night out for a friends bachelorette party. I called ahead of time to see if we could reserve tables and the woman who answered said she'd have the owner call me back. Barb (an owner) called me back and from the start of the conversation she was extremely rude. She acted insulted like how dare we try to reserve tables at her winery. Apparently they were having a big party that night and were expecting a lot of people. I didn't understand where her hostility came from, I was promising at least 15 people to come to her "party" wouldn't she want the business? I was so upset after speaking with her that had invites not gone we would have switched wineries and gone somewhere that would have appreciated the business we were bringing to them. It was by far one of the rudest experiences I've had with a business. The day of the party I went out a little ahead of time and snagged three tables. I did speak with a man who was nice and explained i was waiting for a group of gals to enjoy some wine with. Might I mention that almost everyone there for her "party" was seated outside, there were tons of open tables. So all of that rudeness for nothing. Once my party arrived we got bottles of wine and sat down. We felt like the staff was a little rude, they would give us sideways glances occasionally. We all commented on how awkward we felt. It was so bizarre to feel so unwanted in a place. All in all their bad customer service did not ruin our time but its too bad that they don't know how to treat customers.
We went with our brother and sister in law. I think he used a Groupon ticket, that gave us the 5 wine samples, along with a small loaf of bread (no flavor) and cheese in a basket. We found several wines to purchase for later enjoyment. We enjoyed the outdoor seating and their wonderful cats.
I go to JAV whenever I get a chance. Their wines are fantastic. The grounds are beautiful. The staff is a delight every time we go and I love the kitties:) I always feel at home here and there are always things going on whether you go to watch live music, watch a movie under the stars, participate in a murder mystery or just want a good glass(or bottle) of wine. This is definitely the place to go!
Doing the wineries around Lincoln on a Saturday afternoon and as usual, we found ourselves here. Every time here has been a great time. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The outdoor seating is not crowded and there are wines to satisfy our entire group. Don't miss the cheese and sausage basket either. It comes with bread and the portions are generous. Drink up my friends!
We took an impromptu vineyard trip this weekend and visited 4 vineyards/tasting rooms. All of them were very different. James Arthur is very large and very commercial. They have a restaurant sized tasting room. There were about half a dozen people pouring tastings but they didn't offer very much information about the wines they were serving. They seemed more like wait staff instead of vintners. And they do offer a few food and snack offerings to go with your wine. The wines are quite good if you like sweet wines like we do. We purchased 3 different varieties. But the entire tasting area is filled with commercial tourist merchandise with a cutesy wine theme. More show than substance. The grounds have quite a few tables gathered around water features and even some in a gazebo. It is very pretty here but I wish they concentrated more on the experience of wine tasting and talking about how they make their wines and what makes them unique.
We were visiting my family in Lincoln, NE when we visited James Arthur Vineyard. This was a wonderful experience. We picked out 6 different wines to sample. The young man that waited on us was very helpful and friendly. We took our wine outside to a gazebo. There are little ponds with waterfalls, lots of trees and flowers. We had a great view of the vineyard.
If you have ever been to California, France or even tried some regional vineyards in Arkansas you have had better wines than this place could dream of producing. A beautiful facility and amiable staff- the wines are definitely not the reason to visit. It ain't Napa or Bordeaux- it doesnt even come close.
The first person you see is Laura, the Tasting Room manager. She will start you off right with tastings of your choice of all the different wines made there. At some point during your visit you will encounter Barb, or Jim, or both of the Ballards, and you can ask them anything about the vineyard. There is a great gift shop, wine for sale, and neat gifts available for purchase. Many events throughout the year make this a truly special place to visit, again and again!
This doesn't look like Nebraska, at least this close to Lincoln. Great food, and pretty good wine. Not California level, but pretty good.
Good wines, good munchies, and several areas to sip your wine. Inside, or outside. Music at select times. Nice place to meet the girls
Been there a few times, really relaxing and nice place to try a lot of different wines. During the summertime they have bands or music playing outside. Great place overall, best winery around Lincoln.
This is a great place to sit back, relax and try new wines. They also have theme nights with entertainment that is always top notch.
