Great value the day after christmas, $55, beautiful course, a little backed up, although to be expected the day after the holiday and everyone's got a new driver. Greens were screaming fast, turkey sandwich at the turn was great with a side of Ranch Dressing, Cart girl came by three times, which worked well. Pace of play was ok, we finished with probably a 51/2 hour round, slowed down the last four holes by a dad and his young daughter .... I hate it when that happens ;) Need to get my daughter out ....
Terrific Layout for 18 of the 27 holes, ranch & canyon. Played this course couple years ago & was in much better shape, fairways & greens - in fairness they had some rain - but overall still very nice & scenic. Bag drop not so good, small golf shop & restaurant very friendly. Range is small and off mats (not inviting). Not real demanding but, challenging enough & you can hit every club in your bag. It's not a country club by any means but, in a lot of ways this recommends this course. Downside, you will get a few too many players that should stay on a muni track (there was a guy wearing a flannel shirt & bare foot!!). In addition, too many local old timers playing way too slow & never let you play through (ready play golf?!). Combined with no marshals on the course can make for LONG last 9 holes. Overall, if you play to a 10 handicap or higher, the scenery & the course will be worth the trip and should provide a fun day of golf.
Beautiful course, well maintained. Challenging and thoughtful design without being excessively penal on your errant shots. Front desk person was friendly, and treated us well. Only complaint was the pace of play slowed down considerable toward the end of the round. I would like to have seen more of the end of day rounds spread out among the three nines.
There are three nine hole courses at Steele Canyon. The Canyon and Ranch Courses are very challenging. The layouts of all the courses are attractive and call for good shot making. The staff are friendly and efficient. During the week our senior rate was $35.00, a great value.
This was a very scenic layout with a number of steep downhill and uphill tee shots. There are three 9-hole courses. Our first nine was recently aerated, so the greens were a little bumpy. Otherwise, the course was in good condition despite long term drought conditions. Difficulty was moderate. Every staff member I encountered was extremely pleasant and accommodating. I will return the next time I'm in the area.
Awesome layout easy to get to, lots of elevation changes and always in great shape. Way better than sycuan or cottonwood nearby. I've never had a bad time here. If you can flight the ball, it really helps here instead of trying to hit high carrying approach shots. Greens are typically on the faster side
Golfed at Steele Canyon for the first time with friends. Loved the course. In very good condition. Will play there again soon.
A gorgeous setting, well maintained, really tough for a hacker like myself, and fairly expensive. Would definitely play it again though "if" I have some sort of coupon or discount offer.
My Wife and I got Married here on 11/11/11. I'm a Guy and don't normally comment about the beauty of things, but this location for our wedding was beautful/awesome. It rained the whole entire day, but was not a problem as Barry had a back up plan and we held the ceremony indoors as well as reception. All our guests commented about how awesome the view and sunset was!
Very fun course with dramatic elevation changes. I love hitting from elevated tees - especially ones that make me feel like I'm a big hitter. This course has a couple of holes where if you hit a good drive, you may it it 340 or more. Or if you are a normal 240 driver you will likely get your first 300+ drive. Most of the fairways are pretty open - not too many trees like nearby places.Greens were quick but not penal, and the luncheon after the tournament was very good. We played for under $50 in the afternoon and then again in a tournament the next morning. I'll go back again.
Steele Canyon has one of the most challenging and beautiful courses in San Diego. Par 3 to 5 holes in the rolling hills offer the most experienced golfers a place to excel. The design of the course is spectacular. Back at the club, there is a huge dining room, two bars, and a gorgeous outdoor patio for large events. I'm so impressed.
First let me say that I played this course on March 4th, 2013. It was in pretty good shape, but the greens had recently been aerated and sanded on 18 of the 27 holes. The Canyon course was still worth the price. The views, the elevation changes, and the layout were similar to playing a mountain course in Colorado. There were plenty of interesting holes. I played with 2 locals who were very helpful in deciding course strategy, although there were 2 occassions I should not have taken their advice. Anyhow, if you're looking for an interesting course that is relatively inexpensive (for California) and fairly easy to get on, I would recommend Steele Canyon. Weekday rate was under $100 with cart and range balls. Four sets of tees make it enjoyable for any ability. Make sure that one of your 9s is the Canyon course. Meadow course was nice, but not nearly as dramatic. I have never played the Ranch course so cannot comment on it.
Lots of elevation changes. Course is in good shape. Not very long but really fun to play. Lots of good views.
This golf course is very scenic since you are going way up into the mountains. So you are going to get some great views as well as some awesome tee shots. That said there is not much else to rave about this golf course. Lets start off we were expecting some nice club house where we can go and get a good breakfast and lunch. It is more like a municipal course club house. Plastic tables and seats and food cooked in the microwave. Also way over priced for the stuff you are getting. Next lets talk about the men's bathroom. Seriously? just one urinal and toilet at the clubhouse? Pretty disgusting not well maintained. Golf carts needs some upgrading as well. The brakes are shot cause of all the hills you have to go through. Therefore, coming down a steep hill and the brakes are fully locked you will not be stopping. So don't tailgate your friend. Their GPS is not visual just a black and green screen with distance. This is also a very short course and not too many memorable holes. All in all not really worth it.
We paid a significant amount of money to play and really didn't find it as nice as several of the municiple courses, like the Crossings at Carlsbad. We're not snooty golf people so I don't think we fit in. The Meadows course was surrounded by houses and while we certainly weren't being rushed, we also felt we were in someone's backyard because of the narrow fairways and homes on each side. Its an okay course, but with all of the options we won't be back.
