Four of us took that took lessons from Wade on a Friday afternoon while on vacation in the area. We were the only 4 scheduled so it was a private class. Prior to arriving Wade answered all of our email questions and it was easy to pay on line. He showed up promptly for our 8am lesson with everything we would need. We started out with learning the technique he teaches while on land and then went down to the water where he showed us the boards we would be using, the flotation belt, the paddles and explained how to get on the board. Before coming to the lesson none of us thought we would be able to do SUP and we figured we would all fall in at some point. But in the 2 hour lesson we all got it right away and no one fell in.Wade spent time helping each of us improve on our technique, took time to get to know each of us, and he also taught us a bit about the area. We saw sea lions while paddling around the marina, which was an added bonus. When we arrived back Wade took the time to thoroughly clean the boards, which was encouraging to see how much he cared/took pride in his equipment. All of us had a great morning, we were glad we took the lesson and would highly recommend Wade.
We searched around & read many reviews before deciding on SUP with Wade. For a first time experience for (3) 15 year old girls, we wanted it to be perfect - & it was! Communication in advance was timely & informative, the website had good explanations & we could even pay by PayPal on the site. We wanted to have this first lesson at Mother's Beach for the calmer waters, so it would be an easier start. Wade also suggested an 8am lesson to avoid too much wind (& hence more paddling effort), & he was right - the wind picked up around 9:30. Wade also told us in advance that he would be away & that his wife Krista would do the lesson - having read a review about her, I was fine with that, too. Krista knew just how to teach teenagers, she's very engaging and had specific tips and guidance to make it a fun experience. We did not go out with them, but the girls came back having gone to the end of the channel, were excited about the experience & seeing the sea lions & birds, & felt quite comfortable with the trek. Let me say, though, they're very athletic & capable. If we had gone, I expect we might have been sore the next day (the girls were not). I can also vouch for Krista's lessons, as both of us had been SUP'ing on a Caribbean vacation last year (first time). Just watching Krista work with the girls taught us quite a few things (that we wish we'd known our first time), and we're planning on signing up for a lesson with her or Wade before the end of summer! If you live nearby or are an out of town visitor, don't miss the experience of SUP! If it's your first time, try it from Mother's Beach - you can't beat the views & the ease of calmer waters. I know they have other lessons (surfing, paddle board surfing) & I think they'll do ocean SUP if you're ready for that.
