The tasting room is very inviting and the staff are friendly and laid back. In addition, the patio and the redwood grove provide for a beautiful stroll with a glass of wine and offer breathtaking wine-country views. Every wine, red or white, tastes amazing and rather affordable considering the quality. You'd pay 2-3 times as much for similar wine in Napa or Sonoma County.
Nelson Family Vineyards is the best! The wine is amazing. They have a nice tasting room with beautiful views. The tasting room has the best staff and they are so friendly. It is a small family winery, but you will not be dissapointed.
This was an absolutely beautiful winery! On the day I visited, they let us taste 11 wines and all were very unique and delicious. Often times you go to wineries and try 5-6 wines and usually 1 and 2 standout. But out of the 11, they wer all really good. The hostess was very friendly and informative!
We happened to stop by this vineyard on a Sunday afternoon. It is located right off HWY 101. Robin Laughlin was in the wine tasting room that afternoon. She is the most knowledgeable person of all the wines, olive oil, and products sold at this Family Vineyards. She explained all their latest products, and helped us package 6 bottles of the wines and several bottles of Olive Oil that was sold at the family farm. She gave us a history of the 2000 acres farm; the blending process of the wine and the harvest of the grapes. She was kind friendly and such an asset to this family farm. The wine is exceptional and the personal attention we received from that afternoon was heart warming. We will definitely return there when we are in the area again.
We were impressed with the wine enough to join their wine club. Robin was friendly, knowledgeable, and lack any of the pretense that you have to deal with in some tasting rooms. If you only have time to stop a one vineyard, this is definitely the one.
We are on a trip exploring wine areas we have never visited. We were referred to Nelson Family Vineyards by the pourer at a tasting room in Hopland. We are so glad we followed her advice and visited Nelson Family Vineyards. The wine is exceptional, and the attention you receive in the tasting room fantastic. The grounds are beautiful. We highly recommend this winery, stop in, you'll be glad you did!
Friendly staff, well balanced whites with a flowery nose. So good, we joined the wine club. Loved the new Pinot.
The winery is a half mile off Highway 101. It's not at the place with the old farm equipment. Great wine and nice people! Will be back to this winery!
I liked this place because it wasn't trying to appeal to the masses. The tasting room was very, very nice. The grounds were clean and inviting. There were beautiful oak trees lining the driveway. It just seemed anti-Napa, which I really appreciated.
Tucked away right at the apex of Mendocino Wine Country between Hopland and Ukiah is a small, fmaily vineyard. You have to turn right, going southbound at the Seacho berry fields and gaunt down a short dirt road. There is amp, e parking only for about three visitor vehicles and the gardenpath you walk is equally inviting and cozy. 1you glance off to your ri b t to see thousands of vines that walk up the steep hill you just drove down on hwy 101. During the warm summer day I went, the breeze was a jacket of calm and I entered the homey tasting room. Seven wines were offered, and each very special. Not a white wine drinker, I was convinced by Shelbylynn to simply taste a glass of Summer. The pinot grigio was just that - what Summer should be... a chilled, not too sweet boquet of orange and honeysuckle with a vanilla finish. Simply in my mind - just what mead should taste like. From there, I enjoyed several reds, from the cabernet to a grand blend which name I hate to admit, I have forgotten. After an extravaganza for the taste buds, Shelbylyn offfered that I walk the vineyard and taste the grapes themselves. One word: Wow!
This was an unexpected stop on our road trip up the 101. We were pleasantly surprised to find this vineyard and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Robin, the bartender in the tasting room was really friendly and told us a lot about the wines and the property. I wish we had more time to explore the grounds. I would highly recommend checking this place out for both the atmosphere and the wine. We liked the wine so much that we joined their wine club!
We have visited the vast majority of wineries in Mendocino County and Nelson Family Vineyards stands alone. A truly welcoming experience. The tasting room sits amidst a beautifully landscaped hillside with tranquil views of the vineyards. The very helpful and knowledgeable Sherrilynn made our tasting experience absolutely wonderful. Down a very short path from the tasting room you’ll find a scenic redwood grove where we enjoyed one of our recently purchased bottles at a picnic table amongst the redwoods. We have tried all their wines (on several occasions) and we always end up leaving Nelson Family Vineyards with a mixed case because all their wines are so good. Our favorites have to be the Estate Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and for a special treat the Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine.A true hidden gem. Not to be missed!
This is off 101, about a quarter mile off the road. The grounds are quite nice. The host is very helpful and fun to talk with. Wines are quite good. The wine club is well worth it, with 20% off. I would go back in a heartbeat.
We had a really pleasant visit to this winery. Unlike the impersonal tasting experIences at the large, commercial vineyards, we were treated to personal attention and a taste of 9 really varied wines, most of excellent quality. A really relaxing way to spend an hour - don't miss it !
We never miss an opportunity to stop by Nelson Family Vineyards on our annual trip to Mendocino County. We love the grounds with naturally landscaped plants and flowers surrounded by their vineyards, but our favorite spot is the redwood grove which is adjacent to their small but pretty tasting room. We usually grab a bottle of wine and picnic in the grove(actually, we buy a case on each visit and drink the first bottle along with sandwiches we bring with us). We really like their wines (Estate Cabernet, Viognier and the Barn Blend are the faves), and we love the natural environment in which they serve them. Nice people. Great wine. Natural setting. That's just right for us!
