Drive-in movies are a fun alternative to the movies. Great place for family fun night. You can find coupons on their site.
I am discusted at this establishment. Management is a joke and needs to get an education.I was discriminated against for being a minority and sadly I have to say that I hope people don't go to the mission tiki until some heavy changes occur.
For $8 per adult and $1 per child (5-9), Mission Tiki Drive-in Theater is an affordable way to spend an evening. Most of the time the shows are double featured so you watch 2 movies for the price you pay. You can bring your own food and beverage, or buy it there. I love their Supreme Nachos and the burritos.During the summer, the place can get very crowded, especially when new movies come out. When there are a lot of people, the restroom gets more dirty, runs out of paper. There's a long wait for buying food and for the restroom. Just be patient and take it easy...
I used to love this place. It was my hangout of choice away from bustling L.A. Now that I am in the IE and work in the OC, I have other choices for drive-in theaters. For example, the Electric Dusk Drive-in (EDDI) in downtown L.A. has become a growing fun and trendy place to be. Vineland is also swell, especially on weeknights. And although owned by the same annoying wankers as Tiki, I prefer Roubidoux, unless it too has changed since I last went as well. The staff harassed us about everything we did. We moved away to hang out and talk and were harassed for sitting outside of our cars, stalked by the staff, micro -managed, and threatened until we were so uncomfortable that we just left. As a person of color, I began to feel that the harassment was racially motivated as I saw no one else harassed by the staff, even when several groups of people were smoking weed and drinking, we were more of a threat to the public having academic discourse while we waited for the next film we actually wanted to see.I will no longer patronize this establishment after being a customer for nearly 10 years. It was just too uncomfortable and strict. I would rather visit the competition and not be made to feel like a criminal while enjoying my time outside with my friends at the drive-in. Forego this theater and visit another. My vote for something different is EDDI. If I could give them no rating , I would.
We visited the Mission Tiki Drive-In for the first time last week as part of the 'Live @ the Drive-In Jimmy Buffett' concert. It was a wonderful experience! (And one that I hope he will do again!!) The theatre is an easy drive over from the LA area, we got there about 2 hours early since it was connected to a Buffett concert. Super friendly staff and management -they were always available. The drive-in is easy to get in and out of. Great picture and sound! the sound comes through your FM radio - so we took a small boom box with us just in case the battery ran low in the car. They treated the 'parrot heads' very well - we got to experience a mini-tailgate pre-concert event -so much fun! (I think this was probably only for the Buffett group?) The snack bar is cheap, serves reasonably good 'movie food'. We brought our own food and drinks - and just supplemented with popcorn. Loved being able to just hangout in the car with the family. Others have mentioned the bathrooms - they did run out of TP and paper towels, so that might be the only downfall. Based on our experience with the concert - we will definitely go again for the movies!
This was our first time to visit the Mission Tiki drive-in and we had so much fun! It's a real bargain especially if you stay for both showings. Another positive aspect is you are allowed to bring your own food & drinks, just no alcohol. The snack stand was a bit lacking in choices & they were out of quite a few items but that may have been because it was the beginning of the week. Go here & enjoy a blast from the past!!
When I found out that Drive-Ins still existed we had to go. Where else can you get a double feature, bring your own food and drinks and kick back and relax in the comfort of your car. It's a great place because kids can move around and you don't have to worry if they make a little noise because they're in the car. Also if it gets too late they can go to sleep and you are free to enjoy the next movie kid free (sort of). Summer time is a great time to go and this drive in is pretty clean. I refuse to go to the restroom at any drive in so I say go at your own risk. This is one of my favorite ways to spend a summer evening.
The day of the drive in has faded and that is sad. There is really only three main ones. The Mission Tiki, then one in Riverside and a dump in the city of industry.. The Mission Tiki is is well kept and has just gone to all digital picture and sound. I was amazed at the switch. Very clear picture seems like your sitting in a regular theater and the radio pick up is perfect. You can make it as loud as you want. The great thing about the drive in is you get two movies for a really low price plus you can pack in all the snacks you can eat. however if you forget there is still always the snack bar.. Why I find this one better than the others. Riverside just always seems to get young trashy crowds that can be rude and inconsiderate yet good trash people watching. The one in City of Industry, my gosh, it was really ghetto and was more worried about getting car jacked or stabbed at the snack bar and really horrible audio. However Mission Tiki is well run in great area and very safe for kids. Love this place and come back often !!!!
It as my first time coming here and I had no idea what to expect except for what I'd watch on Happy Days haha.Anyway, try to get there 15 minutes because there will be a line of cars, if you plan on watching both movies. The parking spaces are angled up hill and down hill in order to see the screen...I never thought of that. I was thinking, "Why is the lot so unevenly paved." Womp womp. I was watching and paying attention to the movie until an SUV parked reversed in front of us and kept their head lights on!?!? WTF...People are inconsiderate and rude so we moved to another space which had a better view. Other than those lame idiots, I enjoyed the experience of the drive-in. Another down fall, but not too big down fall was the venue is has trains passing by it so depending on which screen you get you may have some brief moments of unwanted noise. Some helpful tips for my next visit...bring a pillow, blanket, chairs maybe, and more movies snacks, meals.I did not visit the snack bar or bathrooms (but I heard it was not in top condition to go to.) I would LOVE to come back here again.
2 movies for the price of 1. Thats a good deal. Clean picture and sounds good. It is a hassel to get out. But at the same time what place isnt. Def should go. Not many left in SoCal.
Before I Give My Review Let Me Just Say To All People Going To The Drive In:DONT FORGET YOUR MANNERS AT THE DOOR!!!!!-People driving around in the middle of the movie with your headlights BEAMING onto the screen...Turn them off please!!! I understand you are trying to light your way to find a parking spot but you are ruining the movie with your headlights shining directly at it.-And 2nd...If you have a huge truck w/a tunnel cover or are planning on backing into the spot & open your back hatch to sit back there to watch the movie...PLEASEEEEE BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGSSS better yet...please park in the back if your wanting to do that. You WILLL be blocking smaller cars parked behind you so please be considerate.Now...Onto My Actual Review Since I Have Gotten The Main Ranting Outta The Way LOLThis is such a great place when you get passed the MASSS amount of people with no manners lol. We drove from Santa Clarita Valley to partake in such a great experience that is hard to find. We stopped & got movie munchies at the Farmer Boy about 15 mins from the drive in which was so delicious!!! To be able to sit in your car enjoying the night air while grubbin on WHATEVER you want to bring in...while watching not one but TWO epic movies for the small price of $7 is pretty awesome!!! The food is reasonably priced if you decide to hit up the snack bar but ladies BEWAREEEEE the bathroom is sooooo disgusting but seeing the huge line of ladies waiting in line to pee with the men standing waiting for us is kinda funny. Lucky boys get a trough to pee in (kinda grottie but convienent)My experience overall was great..i wish there was someone there tho to walk around & tell people to either move (if blocking a smaller car in front of them) & turn off headlights. It CLEARLY states at the ticket box that larger trucks should park in the back...we had to move because of a truck parked in front of us and rudley put up his tunnel cover to block us...wish there was someone to regulate that nonsense haha...but other then that it was great!!! Definetly an experience you cant beat & we will be back may times despite the rude people. THanks for keeping Tiki Alive & remember movie goers....Mind Your Manners!!! (^__^)
There are not many drive-in theaters around the area but this one is the best one to go to. Others in Riverside and City of Industry are ghetto and always have a haze of weed smoke lingering around. The theater was recently upgraded to digital format and the sound is good through your car radio. The snack bar has good options and they even have a gift shop where they sell cool glow in the dark stuff for the kids. The theater offers a great value with a double feature of first run movies. If your looking for something fun to do as a family, I recommend this Mission Tiki. You should arrive at least a half hour before showtime to beat the lines entering the venue.
What can you say.. It's history. If you haven't taken the kids there, do so. Only a few still out there and its always fun..
