Just as San Francisco, and many other cities, have micro climates this rambling old stone building comes complete with (non) competing world views. You can watch or get up and shake your booty in the back room on the large dance floor. There is practically a nonstop onslaught of DJ's and live talent. The friendly, colorful locals are a lively talkative bunch that love to dance. The main bar is just inside the main entrance and is well stocked, well staffed and is a real wooden bar, not press board and plastic. You can relax and have a conversation in front of the fire on a cool night. There is an upstairs and loads of folks hung out on the various landings talking. It will take repeated visits to ferret out all the delights of this place and I must confess to being the last person there at closing time. There is a tunnel system for example. The proprietor, Niko is awesome and friendly. Leave your game face and go have fun. This is the perfect alternative get away to an alternative universe. Punks, hippies, goths, you name it, seemingly living in peace. Great town.
