pilot peak vineyard & winery

This winery was simply brilliant. My wife and I stopped there looking for a quick tasting and got way more than we expected. We were treated to incredibly friendly service, and actually spent a lot of time talking with the owners, who were lovely and very knowledgeable. The tasting itself was completely free (we definitely bought wine anyway), and we were treated to a few white wines, before being taken into the wine production area itself. Then uniquely, a selection of reds were given for 'comparative tasting'. We were given a cheat sheet of the wines the winery produced, as well as 4 separate tastings at the same time, so we were able to taste them alongside each other, rather than one at a time like all the other winery's I've been to. We also had small appetizers to go with the tastings. On top of it all, we were given some additional wines to try, based on what we had liked so far! You simply can't get better customer service! The wine was delicious, and very well produced and ask any questions to the owners, who really do know their stuff! The area of the winery was in the beautiful rolling countryside outside of Grass Valley, and the views were amazing. A lot of time and effort has clearly gone into making this winery as welcoming as possible, and it certainly feels that way. We have a brilliant time, and left very happy customers indeed. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to visit a winery in the area. Given a chance, we will definitely be going back!!!

Prize winning wines,great hospitality which made you feel like a good neighbor,fantastic view from the wine tasting area. A hidden gem in the foothills.

We live in the area but had never been to Pilot Peak before. We took a houseguest here and had a wonderful experience. Everyone was very friendly. Your wine tasting is free of charge which is unusual anymore. You start in the winery itself and taste a few whites, then you fix yourself a little complimentary appetizer plate and they take you to the outdoor patio which is in a lovely setting of oaks. More wine tasting on the patio. Wines are served in flights of four. They also have Sunset at the Peak every Saturday evening where you pay a small entrance fee which includes your first glass of wine. They have live music to dance to at these events. Also would be a great place to have a special event. We will be back. Very relaxing and pleasant way to spend part of an afternoon!

Beautiful setting and great wine not to mention friendly owners make this a super place for an afternoon picnic. They also serve beer if some in your party prefer it. Very laid back and they allow you to choose which wines you want for wine club members.

All the wines are good, some are very good. Frequent events almost guarantee snacks available on weekends. Owned by two families, there is informal hospitality and two-way communication, rather than just hired pourers with a script.

Your stop through penn valley or grass valley must include a visit to Pilot Peak. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. They will be there pouring the wine themselves! Your wine tasting includes appetizers - all for no charge. They have a beautiful patio seating area with gorgeous views!
