lake shastina golf resort - scottish course

We rented a condo during Christmas to be close to family. Mother, daughter and hubbies.It is well equipped with plenty of linens, kitchen ware, bath needs.The beds are very comfortable and the view was lovely. If you want fancy ...skip it. If you are like me and prefer cozy casual, you will love it. I have nothing negative to say.

This is the gorgeous high-desert and it's wonderful fun! In any case, the club house itself, as well as the restaurant, are modest and comfortable, very conducive to relaxation. The casual restaurant/bar serves fun-food and priced right, the staff make you feel like family...who needs more than that? The Scottish Course is beautiful and lots and lots of fun, especially if you don't mind losing several balls. And all in the shadow of magnificent Mt. Shasta, it's a golfers' bargain for folks who like folks, and who know how to relax! P.S. I don't know what theeir photo of a log house has to do with the Lake Shastina Golf Resort, or Scottish Links. Perhaps it's one of the homes around the course? It's certainly not the clubhouse, nor one of their rustic but adequate condos. Oh! and their large driving range and pitching/putting areas are facing that terrific mountain...it's a challenge to keep your eyes on the ball! Caveat: LSGR is habit-forming!

I recently went onto this site to review the Lake Shastina Golf Resort and noticed the previous review that mentions the general manager and wife in a negative light. I was actually quite surprised. I too visited the Golf Resort in June and toured it as well as had a meal there. I had quite a different experience. The General manager's wife, who ran the restaurant, was very friendly to everyone who came by, male or female. She asked questions that were friendly, yet showed her concern and actual interest in each person she encountered. I was impressed. She was also very efficient and helpful to all who came by. The servers in the restaurant were also attentive and enthusiastic. The restaurant was simple, as was the menu, but so were the prices and the food was tasty. The general manager was extremely professional, yet laid back, which seemed to be the perfect fit for this Northern California Resort. He was knowledgeable and aware of what was happening throughout the property. He also showed an interest in the members as well as the visitors and workers. Again, impressive. The condos do seem a little dated, but the course is absolutely breathtaking. With that kind of view, how could they go wrong? It is a great place to relax and enjoy a few rounds of golf for a more than reasonable price in an amazing setting.

While this resort is situated in a stunning location at the base of Mt. Shasta and the golf course is first-rate, the adjacent condominiums are dreadful. We arrived late in the afternoon & instead of going to our condo, decided to play 9 holes of golf. That, as it turned out, was the best part of our stay. We were told when we checked in that after our golf game we could eat in the resort restaurant & would not have to drive anywhere for dinner. The "restaurant" is nothing more than a greasy spoon cafe next to the pro shop with a very limited menu -- it was more like being in a McDonalds than a fine restaurant. We decided to drive the 5 miles into Weed & found a little cafe where we had a fairly decent dinner. We returned to the condo ready for a nice, relaxing & comfortable evening. When we pulled up in front of our unit (#111) we noticed there was absolutely no landscaping around the condo, only knee-deep grass & dirt. It looked abandoned. It was situated facing Mt. Shasta which was lovely - but it also overlooked a decrepit old tennis court - not the golf course. When we went inside, we were shocked to find the unit looked like something out of the 60's. It would be hard to describe how tacky the furnishings were. The unit smelled musty like no one had been in it for months. How they can call this unit a "condo" is beyond me. I suppose it's because it has a tacky little kitchenette. The "living room" was about the size of a walk-in closet. Right in the middle was an ugly little table with a lamp overhead that hung crooked & was falling apart. The rest of the furniture in the unit was completely outdated, the toilet was dirty, the towels were threadbare. Since we had booked a one-night's lodging and it was already almost 9 p.m., we decided to stay. When we settled into bed, we realized the outside lights in the parking lot were blazing into our bedroom & made it so bright it looked like afternoon in there. My husband even put a towel over his eyes to block out the light in order to sleep. The bed was actually comfortable but we barely slept because of the light coming into the bedroom. The next morning we couldn't wait to get out of there. Why the owners of this amazing golf course have not updated the condominiums is a mystery. It actually could be a place where you would visit over & over again -- and even tell your friends about. As it is, we will probably never go back to Shastina Golf Resort as there are plenty of other first-rate golf resorts to choose from. This is third rate at best.
