I was driving Skyline so accessed this park off of Skyline. There is a variety of hiking trails; I took a shorter hike and enjoyed it. This area was once a major logging area.Parking is free.

Like Denise L’s first line says, “what an intense workout!” Wow, this was the most brutal hike I did in my three weeks of vacation. I started at Skeggs Point and headed to the Fir Trail. I passed the fog-shrouded vista point and Resolution memorial site, then headed down, down, down. Dang, that downhill trail was so steep and rutted – I knew at that point I was going to be suffering on the way back up. At the junction of Fir and Giant Salamander trails I turned left and took the Giant Salamander trail. It was still foggy but this part was nice with lots of huge redwoods. Yeah, it was a beast heading up. I then took the Timberview trail up, stopped at the Old Growth Redwood (it’s ginormous) to its terminous. Signage at that point was poor but I chose the correct path (unmarked) I wanted to get to the top, then finished off with the Sierra Morena Trail back to the car. Truth be told, these trails were just too damn steep for me so there’s no way I’d do this one again. The topo map seems to show only 600-700 feet elevation change; it felt like a lottttt more than that. After finishing I took a Yelper’s advice and headed to Alice’s restaurant a few miles south for a burger and Guinness replenishment.

Beautiful place to hike. Trails were well-managed and reasonable. Lots of shade and pretty scenery. If you're a mountain biker, this is the place for you. Parked on Skyline by the little stone wall and the trail entrance was right there. Will definitely be coming back.

Loved this place. Of course, it's hard not to love the open spaces around here, but this is one of the BEST.Manageable, well-maintained trails for all levels of experience, free time, and stamina... A picnic spot at the Vista Point (which was maybe not as much as a vista as we had hoped... but we found some of our own 'vista points' along the trail)... the kickass and totally worth it sandstone formationAnd the best part: Methusaleh. Touch her sweet bark and feel a living thing that was born around the time of the tetrarchy of the Roman Empire!
