If you are looking for ski school with great coaches and reasonable price, this resort offer the best deal. Staff are friendly and cool. Food at both main cafeteria and the Grill and Bar place are great and reasonable price. Hours from 8 AM to 10 PM offer a great range of skiing time. Will come again and again for short escape to the mountains.
We had fun at North Pole tubing park with our 7 year old. After reading reviews, I really thought it would a let down especially going on January 3 the last Saturday before school started back on monday.True the website should be more forthcoming with regards to how many lanes are open they say 10, but there were 6.The staff was friendly, helpful and upbeat. We arrived around 10am and they sold out. We went down the road played in the snow for about an hour and half then went back up and bought a 2.5 hr ticket we had about 6 rums and could have done more, but we were done.Great Time, thanks
The convenience of Mountain High is its primary selling point. I 1/2 hours from Orange County. I have gone to Mountain High about 10 times over a 20 year span for that reason alone. However, it gets far less snow than Big Bear and never even think about going there during a holidays. THEY DON'T TELL YOU THAT THEY STOP SELLING LIFT TICKETS WHEN THE PARKING LOT FILLS. The parking lot fills in part because everyone from LA and OC takes their kids to play in the snow during the holidays. As I learned yesterday, a Saturday during New Years break, the traffic backs up for many miles, doubling the 1 1/2 hour drive to 3 hours and then upon arrival everyone is rudely turned away and told to try again after 2:00 p.m. as tickets may again become available. There was no warning on the website. There was no warning at the turnoff to Wrightwood from I-15 where you could elect to drive further to Snow Summit in Big Bear.By the time we were turned away by the unprepared and overwhelmed parking staff at Mountain High we could have been at Snow Summit. After wasting 2 hours getting in and out of Wrightwood with a carload of kids and their ski gear, we drove to Snow Summit for an afternoon and evening of skiing. It was also a huge day at Snow Summit but the resort was well prepared for it.If you are considering Mountain High, buy lift tickets in advance, go really early and avoid holiday weekends.
Equipment hire was shocking - poor quality. The resort does not have enough facilities for the amount of people. not enough places to sit and eat, poor standard of ski lifts - slow and no safety bar. I would not recommend this resort.
We attempted to go tubing, but due to conditions basically ended up going 20 feet and had to walk down the hill. Their attempt to make any snow made the experience worse complete with freezing icy snow spraying in everyone's face as they waited in line to go down the hill. Guests and even some of the workers were complaining about this, but said their was nothing they could do because another company ran the snow machine. The best part of the day was getting scolded by a teenager. Admittedly, we took a few tubes to another part of the mountain where you can actually go down a hill more than 20 feet. There were probably 30+ people that found this area and actually had some fun because the tubing hill was so disappointing. As punishment for taking the tubes to the area, the teenage worker and his teenage supervisor proceeded to cut off our passes with a knife. Later I found out he did the same to all the kids as well. What type of place allows teenagers to carry a knife and then use it close to a child's neck?
This is a review of the North Pole Tubing park. Ok first the pros, it's a pretty easy drive from LA compared to Big Bear, they make their own snow and I had a coupon, thankfully. Now the cons, the lines were awful, a 45 minute wait for a 30 second 'thrill'. One of my kids lost interest after the first slide and after nearly 2 hours and only 2 slides so did the rest of us. Now I know why they sell all day tickets, not worth the time and money.
We expected the worst and got the best! We arrived late, no line! The staff were more accomodating than we could have asked for. Friendly, helpful, and hard working... all on a Christmas Day. We had the best ski instructor - Thank you Alice!!! No lift lines! Snow! The intermediate and expert slopes were deserted! Happy Christmas everyone, you should have been with us!
It's not snow season, but still nice to go, breezing and with autumn view. Haven't got a chance to see the rocks, but definitely will go there a second time.
Loved everything ! Fantastic sights and things to do, Great friendly people and the prices were reasonable..
Skied Mountain high since 1972, actually live in the town, plenty to do for everyone young and old. Navitat relative new with plenty of satisfied customers.
I live nearby, so for where it is and what it is, its great. If I lived beyond Upland, I'd go to big bear. If you're a skier, like myself, go to the east resort. Better carving, fewer wannabe boarders from the basin. Do your girlfriend a favor, and treat her to a lesson or tubing, followed by a glass of wine at the village bring in town. She deserves it, since she puts up with your cheap, anticlimatic relationship all the time. You schmuck.
Mountain High is well known for the place where the skiers goes, they have excellent classes for those beginners who wants to learn how to ski and its a really nice place to go for the winter and hang out there with friends and family. Good place to take some winter pictures...
Skip the rip off! This is the smallest tubing facility! We waited 40 minutes to go down a lame small lane... We wanted our money back: but it was a no-go. Kids wanted to see snow, so we waited. Save your money and go to Big Bear instead, only a few more miles up north--big Difference. We left the LONG lines after only one ride, so it was a $20 ride. We ended up going sledding on a local hill--FREE OF CHARGE, it had better snow, and no crowds! Maybe the skiing is a tad better, but we skipped those too
If you live in SoCal, and want an easy day trip for a few hours of skiing, this is for you. If you are a beginner and want to learn, without spending a fortune at an expensive resort, this may be for you too. Don't expect the views of Lake Tahoe, the panache of Deer Valley or the savoir fare of the Alps. This is basic skiing 101. But the people are friendly and they make ski when mother nature doesn't.
Of all the ski / snowboard areas near L.A., this is the most accessible. The snow conditions depend on the area weather – generally on the warm side for skiing or snow boarding. If you go directly after a snowfall (rain in the LA basin), conditions will be good as long as the cool weather hangs. There is snow making equipment as well – which is fine if there are extended periods of cool weather. The ski equipment rental process is SLOW. Rent your equipment before heading to the mountain. Look for discount lift tickets on the internet, local sport shops or Ralphs. The ski resort is great for learning (on days when it is not crowded). If you are looking for a great ski weekend – head to Mammoth.
