I enjoy visiting this museum every time I am in Yreka. They bring the history of the Pioneers to life with the displays. I enjoy the ever changing What is it display. They have an object on display and everybody tries to identify it, great family fun. Bring the kids and plan on spending some time with this dedicated staff.

We were truly impressed with this fantastic exhibition of previous times and feel that a stop is definitely rewarding. We were sad to see that we were the only person to visit that day and only one other family the day before. If you are passing thru please stop and pay the $3 per person and prepare to be impressed. The effort gone into the collection should be rewarded.

Terrific displays and had really wonderful descriptions for items, wide variety of native art & craft, local Chinese artifacts, and interesting settler & miner gear displays in charming historic house. Archeologist husband was even impressed with projectile points (arrowheads) and geologic items and documentation. Conference room was decked out like an old time saloon, made me wish I had a meeting to hold there! Outside has even more, with historically accurate log cabins, church and wonderful machinery displays and plentiful benches. Even cynical son was enchanted by motors . This was a high point of our travels to Cali from Oregon. We will return on another trip! Support this treasure of a museum!

My family decided to stop in Yreka instead of taking the long trip to Redding, CA . We stayed at the Baymont Inn and Suites Yreka148 Moonlit Oaks Ave, I-5 at Fort Jones Exit, Yreka, CA, US, 96097 (highly recommend this hotel great for families (530) 841-1300). During breakfast the lady at the front desk recommended we got o the Historical Museum. It was so charming my sons really enjoyed themselves. I m glad she suggested it. It is perfect stopping point for families, my boys enjoyed the indoor pool at Baymont Inn and Suites Yreka

Anything to do with the history is interesting to me. Old building, objects, pictures and stories. Displays are done well. Information on Siskiyou county goes well beyond what the Museum has to offer. Old building and stories are all around this area.

Small and limited hours, but everything is well displayed. Sections on native Americans from the area, logging, mining and displays of "the good old days". Liked the baskets the best. Who knew they figured out how to make a cap with a bill.Access to the 2nd floor is steps or a lift (no elevator).Admission is only a few dollars - and well worth it.

This is a venerable local institution that amasses, teaches, and displays the historical milieu in which this area and greater region have lived, developed, and continue to thrive.

The volunteer at the counter was knowledgeable and very courteous, the exhibits were well laid out and organized, and I was particularly impressed with the display of a complete, real Conestoga wagon.

I actually planned my trip through Yreka just so I could visit this museum. I love historical museums and this one did not disappoint me- it was a hidden gem! In it I found fascinating displays on gold miners, trappers, local native American tribes. Upstairs there was a Victorian era parlor set up, where you could look in the windows at the display as if you were standing outside the house looking in, and an old fashioned kitchen with the cast iron stove, and a general store set up from the 1930's. The museum illustrated what it must have been like to live in the past, the hardships they had to face. A fascinating trip back into the past! A++++++++++

There was quite a lot to see in this museum. It included Native American Artifacts, as well as many artifacts from the miners and pioneers/ settlers of the area. Displays included a recreated depression era kitchen and store, a pioneer wagon with accompanying story, and various displays of other items, such as guns, period clothing, including some Chinese clothing, and children's clothing. There was also an outdoor section well worth viewing with an old church (built in 1858), a mine shaft, school, house and store that you could look into. It's certainly easy to get to if you're traveling past there on I-5.

The Siskiyou County Museum is located on old Hwy 99 in downtown Yreka. Look for the big white wooden building on the east side of the road. We like small town museums - well actually we like all museums! - and the exhibits in this one are well presented and informative. Several galleries present dioramas and artifacts from various eras of Yreka and SIskiyou county history. There is an Indian gallery, trappers gallery and pioneer settlement gallery.Other exhibits include the history of Chinese immigrants, gold mining and the timber industry. One exhibit is on firearms - and there are a lot of them! The museum entry fee includes access to the outdoor museum next door which has five original buildings dating from about 1865 to early 20th Century plus four more resconstructed buildings. However, we were disappointed to learn the outdoor museum is only open from May through October, and we visited in April. Hopefully we'll be able to visit this section next time we're in town! The museum is open Tues, Wed, Thurs 9-3, and Saturday 10-4. Do call ahead to make sure they are open, especially if you visit in the off season. Admission cost is only $3 for adults 12 and over and just 75¢ for children 6-12 years old; under 6 is free. This museum is well worth visiting to learn some of Siskiyou county's interesting history :-)
