Went with the family for a day trip in December 2014. We took a picnic lunch, spent the afternoon lounging by the pool which is fed by the hot sping. The hot mineral water gives relief to sore muscles and joints, can improve circulation and help your skin. Plus, its just nice to sit in a hot tub. The indoor hot pool is well kept and there are changing rooms with showers. Bring your flip flops to wear as shower shoes. There is an outdoor, unheated pool. Too cold for me, but my 20 year old son dove in and reported that it was refreshing. We did not camp on this day, but have camped here and the bathrooms are nice. They have tent, partial hook up and full hook up sites. They also have cabins. We peeked inside an unoccupied one. They cabins have a Bathroom (toilet, no shower) and a kitchen sink. There are bed platforms, bring your own air mattress and bedding. They looked very comfortable. It gets pretty cold at night, so be sure to bring plenty of warm things. We camped here for spring break a number of years ago. It did get hot during the day. If your tent camping, bring an easy up or other shade.The hot springs do have a lift to assist handicapped persons getting into the pool.

Agua Caliente is a campground in the desert. Although the address is "Julian", the campground is quite far away from the town of Julian.In November it is hot during the day and very cold at night. You will see the most beautiful sky, full of stars at night!There are primitive camp sites for tents, partial hook ups and places for motor homes. Dayuse is also available. There are restrooms and showers available in two places. The showers at the mineral jacuzzi bath are free. The showers in the camp restrooms take quarters. The campground restrooms are well kept. The restrooms at the mineral bath are pretty wet.There is a small store as you enter the campground but it is not always open.If it is closed they told us that the Stagecoach store is only a few miles away.The moonlight trail is a semi- easy hike with some uphill and a few rocky areas. It is nice and will take you about an hour to walk. It is kind of a circle. The landscape is beautiful...Easy for experienced hikers, fine for novices like me.During our recent trip we saw roadrunners, a coyote, and three big horn sheep.The warm mineral jacuzzi spa is very nice to sit and relax in. They keep it at about 102 degrees. The posted rule is that you must be 14 years old to enter this jacuzzi. (There is another pool kids can enjoy. It was kept at 80 degrees while we were there).When we were there recently, there were several children who were obviously breaking this rule and their parents were encouraging them to lie about their age. This was obvious to everyone in the jacuzzi. Teaching your child to lie and break rules is not a smart idea as these parents of up and coming Teenagers will find out. This was also very irritating to all of the jacuzzi spa visitors.Agua Caliente is a nice, peaceful getaway especially if you want to be in the desert...but not really out there in the desert in solitude, you want to be in a campground instead.We really enjoyed our time in the desert!But remember...this is camping...not a resort.

My husband and I wanted to get out of town for a night, and Agua Caliente had a spot left. First of all, I did not realize how far from the main part of Julian it actually was. Its about 40-45 minutes away, and deep in the desert (my fault, I should have done better research). It was HOT, and we were in a tent, with no shade. The heat of the sun woke us up by 6:30 am. I would not recommend this place for tent camping unless the weather is cooler. The campground itself was decent if you aren't too picky. There was a small pool that was so crowded, no one could really move, but it was a nice way to beat some of the heat. The campground was clean, as well as the bathrooms. My only other complaint was the noise, but I guess thats not the fault of the campground, but just inconsiderate people. Basically this is a good place if you just need to stop over for a night on your way somewhere else. Otherwise, you might want to shop around a little more.

Agua is a great little getaway in the higher desert sheltered by surrounding mountains. Nice camping spot, clean showers and pools. My husband and I come down from a near by mountain community in the winter time to warm up in the hot mineral pool and sunshine! Nice day trip also...

Land here, take a hike! Enjoy the hot springs, the desert and the general store. You can do so much in this region its really great. Only 15 minutes by light aircraft from san diego.

We read there was a stream following most of the Azeala Glen trail but there wasn't. Bring water. It was hot and dusty. The views are nice BUT beware - there is still a lot of evidence of the big fire that swept through the area a few years ago. Many of the trees are just charred remains. But, that being said, there were wildflowers and new growth. Take the map from the visitor's center when you go because the trail is not always well marked. It took us about 2.5 hours with some stops along the way - total mileage is about 3.0.
