Such a pretty area, hilly and green. The only thing is the downtown area closes early. So if you want to go take a peek around check out the hours for the restaurants and stores
ideal for a day trip with the family. we enjoyed the views, the walks, the area. worth the visit, and also good for wine tasting. kids had fun playing around in the open air.
We visited a few of the businesses around the square. We bought fudge from one store, chocolate from another one. We ate a delicious meal at the Red Grape. It was a delightful day spent in Sonoma.
I am not that into wine but i loved traveling here, including the vineyards and restaurants. Don't miss the Olive Press,
Beautiful countryside and lots and lots of wineries. Very nice place to visit. Lots to do. Recommend to couples and great for girls trip
This a lovely easy trip from San Francisco and we spent three nights at the Fairmont Sonoma. Great feel to the town and the rolling hills are covered in vines.
We drove among several wineries and had lunch in downtown Sonoma...the variety and beauty of the landscapes was stunning.
Napa is the next valley over but you may never leave Sonoma. The vineyards and restaurants and spas are second to none.
I am a local (20 minutes away) and don't visit the area all that often since I'm not a huge wine drinker. But was here recently and I forgot how nice and quaint/lovely it is in the Sonoma Square area. Cute little inns, nice stores and restaurants (Girl and The Fig was awesome). There are fewer wineries than in Napa Valley, but I think it's nicer because it's not as crowded or not as much foodie/winery snobbery. More relaxed and casual. Train Town is fun for little kids (although my teens still like going there). Some state parks in the area. It you are in San Francisco, it's closer to get to than Napa Valley. Check it out for a day trip. Sonoma Mission is good to visit if you are a history buff.
The overall environment is a relaxing experience, visiting the wineries and experience wine tasting is a great break from the fast pacing everyday life..
Endless fields of grape vines, numerous wineries, restaurants and hotels just fill the landscape. Certainly a destination not to miss if in Northern California. A car is the best way to get around but there are many tours from San Francisco and other cities that take you to the best locations to visit.
The Sonoma Valley has some of the most scenic views in Northern California and many superb vineyards. Lovely towns dot the landscape & a visit to town of Sonoma is worth the trip. This is also home to the original Williams Sonoma store which is small & charming.
Sonoma Valley is beautiful!! We visited many wineries in the area as well as shops and restaurants. The weather in the Fall was perfect - sunny most days and in the 60's to 70's. It's also easy to get to San Francisco or Napa from there.
We much prefer going to Sonoma Valley wineries over Napa. While both Napa and Sonoma have great wine, we like that most of the Sonoma wineries have a more personal experience, with lotsa family owned and smaller production. Many of the places are biodynamic/green farming which is an added plus.
If you only have time for one wine region make it Sonoma. It's not as busy or business like as Napa. People have time to talk with you. The wine is great and there are hundreds of choices. The country side is beautiful. The hotels are nice. The restaurants are delicious.Highway 12 between Sonoma and Santa Rosa has some great wineries. Also consider going north to Healdsburg, where there are the best Zinfandels.
