I grew up going here. I loved it then and still love it now. This park is expansive and a great place for a family outing, picnic, or large group potluck. Plenty of shelters, playgrounds, and green space. The river runs though it - to steal a line from a movie. The water has always been clear and a great place to take a dip during the warmer weather of SW Washington in the Summers.Enjoy!
I love going here. It is serene and peaceful, with more trees than you can shake a stick at. I've tried, and I just couldn't do it.There are a multitude of covered picnic areas--complete with grilling equipment--that can be reserved for large gatherings. Or you could just pack up a lunch and go find a patch on one of the many lawns. The Lewis River runs along the south border of the park, and there is a great trail that runs alongside it for walking or running. Lots of area residents will go here to walk their dogs or themselves. It's safe, as there are always a lot of other people around. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, and a baseball field scattered throughout the park. The baseball field is in poor repair, but hopefully that can change and the park can also host ballgames to contribute to its community feel. There are many riverbanks where you can cool yourself off on a hot day. Some people like to put in here on inflatables and float downriver a bit just to relax. During the late summer the water level is low, and there are quite a few rocks that become exposed, so be careful. Also, the water is snow melt from the Cascades to the east, so it is frigid. One of the best places to go in Clark County to get away from the noise.
We hold an annual event here year after year. Picture lots of green, a river, tennis courts, jogging paths etc and you get the picture of a NW Park at its best. Add the covered areas and the great park employees and you have a successful place for your event!
Very beautiful place to go for a nice summer retreat from the heat! This trip was just me and my hubby, but it is a SUPER place for the entire family!
There is a path along the river with benches. Grandma loved being able to walk a bit then sit a bit then walk a bit and sit a bit. The water was down in the river but it made for a nice slow float from the boat ramp to the swim beach area. The kids kept repeating the float. Even though the park had a lot of pavilion reservations, there was room for everybody.
We live just up the road so it is very close and easy to get to, but even with that, we would still drive to get there. Nice family park, plenty of open space, great access to the East folk of the Lewis river. Fun to float down to daybreak park.
I have mostly experienced this park as a day camp for Girl Scouts. Lately we have been going just to go and be outside. It is a beautiful, large park. There are shelters available to reserve, plenty of open air picnic spots that don't need reservations. Lots of open green areas to play in. River is right there but you do need to walk down towards it, so if you have a family not wanting any part of River activity you could go to park and never see the river. Great walking trails, adequate restrooms. Have always run into friendly people on the trails.
