davenport-fort spokane loop

Living so close, this place was on our bucket list. The drive was beautiful and the ranger at the Fort was very nice and full of information. Inside the main building there are plenty of pictures and exhibits to see. But the history of the Fort is sad; how they took the Native American children from their families, cut their hair off, forbid them to speak their native tongue, just to teach them the White ways. I just found it depressing, you can feel the sadness there and see it in the faces of the children. And I guess I had expected more in the way of buildings to see. Only 4 out of the 45 still remain. You walk pathways and look at the markers of different fields or foundations of buildings. It was getting hot and kind of boring. Bees were abundant too. So we just walked the main path and forgot about the harder ones. Maybe we missed some cool stuff but we wanted to go.

The road is hilly and twisting along side many wheat farms. Lots of hawks on the telephone poles and the occasional deer or coyote can be seen in the fields. At Fort Spokane there is a self guided tour of the former military fort. If you get a list from the Park Ranger of tasks to complete the kids can earn a Junior Ranger badge!

Nice short drive with rolling hills amber grain fields and Historic attractions. Ample opportunities for picture taking and the sweetest little church nestled down in a valley right off the road. Worth the time.

Great drive for a Sunday morning. Pack up the family and just enjoy what the area has to offer.

If you drive the whole loop, from Spokane to Davenport, there are several places to pull over for pics, lunch, to stretch.Picnic lunch at Fort Spokane, and dinner in Reardon, make it an all day adventure!

Serious on a nice June day, this is really a great day adventure. Stop and throw some stones, enjoy the geological wonder
