It is a bit difficult to locate this place even with the help of a GPS. But what takes you there, nonetheless, is your interest to see Llamas. There is also a beautiful Gypsy Horse.
We stopped by to shop, not for a tour. Yet we could see the alpacas and llamas from the entrance to the shop. The owner Steve was very gracious with much information about the area, and even beyond across the Sound. (We spoke about relocation and he offered opinions of areas.) We would up buying a couple of items. We met the co-owner also and she was very friendly as well. Steve even took us out back to see a mare and colt they were boarding for a lady. On the whole, it was such a pleasant visit. (The owers are seeking to sell their 13 or so acres and relocate to mid-California area for health reasons. Call ahead to check for hours of operation!) {There is a fee for the tour.}
Come meet the alpaca. Some do not mind being stroked/petted.
Anyone that has young kids or just has a love for animals should go and check this farm out. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable about their animals and can offer wonderfuls stories about their alpaca's.They show you how to pet and handle the alpaca's and really make it fun for everyone.There is a neat store right on the farm wich sells different alpac items(whool,yarn,hats ect) and for anyone that loves some farm fresh eggs they also sell them as well for a good price. The location is right between two beautiful towns(poulsbo and kingston) and the owners can give advice on the best dining spots around. All in all, visiting the sawdust hill alpaca farm was a fun and differetn thing to do on a beautiful day,go and you willnot be disappointed.Happy travels.
I have my own alpacas and thought that a fellow farmer would welcome my vist. I was very wrong. I called ahead of my arrival to let them know I would like to stop by for a short visit. I acknowledged that I would have to keep the visit short since they would be closing within a half hour of my planned arrival. I live out of the state so my estimated time was off by fifteen mintues. According to the posted hours for the farm they'd be closing in fiffteen minutes so I hoped they would still give me just that - fifteen minutes. But no! I got a very cold -"Ya know we're trying to close up here soon?" And the farm store was already locked up and closed. Needless to say I didn't stick around and I of course couldn't buy anything either. Their loss!!
Today my husband and I went for a day trip to the Peninsula from Seattle. As part of our day, we went to Sawdust Hill Alpaca Farm. We called first and were offered a free tour. The farm was located a short drive from the Kingston Ferry and very easy to find. When we arrived we were met by Steve, the owner of the farm and all the gorgeous animals. He was so friendly and told us interesting stories about his travels while we browsed through the shop. The shop was filled with all sorts of alpaca yarn sweaters, hats, socks, baby items, and beautiful yarn. They had both imported items from Peru and local products. Then Steve gave us a personal tour of his farm. He introduced us to the various animals: alpacas, llamas, dogs, and chickens and discussed at great length his experiences raising alpacas, shearing, breeding, etc. He was so interesting to listen too! Meeting the animals was the best part. They are hilarious creatures, one alpaca in particular was more like a dog than a herd animal. Nuzzling up close to my husband and obviously wanting to be petted! Steve said the alpcas do wonderful with children too. We learned a lot and really enjoyed Steve's hospitality and information. We would love to come back again, maybe during shearing season! At the end we bought some cage free eggs from what I believe are truly the happiest chickens on earth with 15+ acres to call their own. It was a wonderful day!
