I used Rill for he first time to shuttle my car while I rafted in my own boat from the Teanaway Bridge to the Thorp Bridge takeout. They were prompt, did as requested, reliable and competitively priced.
Rill Adventures was very helpful and handy for our float down the Yakima River. They got us set up and the equipment was excellent. They were there on time and they met us at the take out as arranged. This was our first time, so I wasn't sure if we had taken on more than we could handle, but it all worked out fine. The float was excellent and after the first 10 minutes or so, we had the raft handling down pretty well. We did the upper float of the two that Rill Adventures offers and although there was a little white water, it was easy enough to handle and enjoy for beginners. I would heartily recommend this adventure for a family event! My only suggestion for Rill Adventures was to get a speaker system for the van. It is really difficult to hear the needed advice. The folks we worked with were super nice and helpful in every way. We bought the pre-packed lunch and it made for a great picnic at the half way point!
It is not often I do something like this raft trip on the North part of the Yakima River and the second I finish I want to do it again! Such is the case with Rill Rafting, four of us went in mid-August and then again Labor Day weekend. Reservations were fast and easy. Upon arrival the staff were friendly, efficient and both times we had excellent service with no glitches. This area is beautiful to begin with, the river gives you a wonderfully refreshing different view of it. No guide is needed and you do not need any experience to do this and really enjoy. Pay attention to their brief instructions however they are spot on. They have different sized rafts, both times we took the largest 8 person for just the 4 of us. Give you room for coolers and gear and to spread out. You put in under a bridge and after a short spur enter the main river for about 4 hours of bliss floating and drinking in the scenery. This is more of a float than serious white water so you can relax and dangle one leg over the side as you meaner along. There are various small rapids and islands where you can spice things up a bit if you chose the more choppy part but none of this is dangerous and little chance of of falling out if you are careful. Your speed and experience of course will vary with the time of year, water height and speed. In our case it was deep enough and fast enough to be about ideal. Call them in advance for water conditions. It was pretty darn cold but we still swam near the end of the day to prove our mettle! Bring a dry bag or two or at least a big plastic garbage bag, you will get water in the raft no matter what! We had two men at the back with paddles to help steer and guide, should not need more unless the river is high and fast. This is simply a wonderful 4-5 hours depending on how you do it, just can't be beat for fun and at a bargain price. A must if you like water and the outdoors. Be sure and read the instuctions about where to park, put in and take out, it differs during the week than the weekend. At the put in they stress to part at the beginning of the bridge not the other side, do that for sure there is no pedestrian walking area on the bridge and cars go by fast, very dangerous. Again this is safe, lots of fun and inexpensive.
Our trip started on the side of the Yakima river a bit north of Thorpe, WA. Things were a bit disorganized for some reason, and we got going about 45 minutes later than the scheduled start time. Everyone who was rafting piled into a "little bus". About half the people had to stand, sit on the floor, sit on coolers, etc. Then we had a half hour drive north on a windy road.THEN - we got into our boats and away we went. We had a large raft for the 6 of us - 4 adults and two medium sized kids. We had little problem navigating the river. Everyone had a great time and we all want to try a new location - possibly some class 3 action. The Yakima in that location is very calm for the most part.We paid about $150 for the six of us, and that included a cooler with some ice, water, and food. The rafting lasted about 3 hours including a break we took at the suggested spot - where I saw a trio of wild turkeys up close.
