We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this museum. Like any museum it had many artifacts and exhibits - as expected - well presented and understandable. I did not expect to see a presentation on Mastodons! Do not miss the basement presentation of the Native American canoes - including two full sized wooden canoes. You can see the entire museum in about an hour and it is convenient to the remainder of the historical downtown Coupeville.
Very nicely done little museum with excellent displays and friendly staff. Definitely worth visiting if you like museums.
It was small, but it had the whole history of Whidbey Island in it. If you love history (as I do), please come and see it.
History, geology, plant and sea life…they have information on it all. The volunteer was helpful and shared interesting local tidbits. Well worth the stop!
This museum is located in a picturesque old house with beautiful flowers and other plants in front. There is a 1902 automobile close to the door once you are inside. Throughout the museum are vintage items such as telephones, typewriters, firearms, military uniforms, and other items. Also located throughout the museum are black and white photos dating back to the early 20th century. There is a section on native Americans and another on boats. One section is on the army prior to the first world war. Another section is on pharmaceuticals and has an array of various medicines dating back a century. The is a great way to spend an hour or so and learn something about the history of the island.
This is a cute albeit small museum. It was interesting to see some of the old artifacts from early Coupeville, such as photos, clothing, and even a piece of Victorian hair art. When we went, there weren't any other guests, so the docent let my niece use the historic telephone! Next door is a historic log house, I forget the technical term for it, but you can go inside and see what an old homesteader built up.
Stopped here while visiting the shops downtown. It's a very small museum, several neat things to see but not something I would go back to, Only took about 10 minutes to walk through.
This was a fun little museum with lots of great history. The gentleman at the door was the sweetest guy too. He was very helpful and happy to answer my questions about the town and the museum.
Had some time to 'kill' so decide to try this. The visit was made wonderful by the old timer manning the 'store'. We had a great chat about the history of the island and the various exhibits. Was amazed at how fast time went by and the things I learned.
I really enjoyed looking round the museum. The gentleman on the desk gave me an interesting talk on Whidbey Island's first car - a 1902 Holsman and a brief overview of what was on display. There is quite a selection from a tree trunk carbon dated back 100,000 years, to telephones and pharmaceuticals. Plenty of local history too including information on the Deception Pass ferry. Outside is a blockhouse dating back to late 19th century. Definitely worth a visit if in Coupeville.
A beautiful museum right downtown in Coupeville, the county seat for Island county, on Whidbey. Lots of local information about the settlers as well as the native Americans who came to this region to gather camas, clams, and fish for salmon. Near nice place to eat (within walking distance) in the old historic part of Coupeville.
This small museum does a reasonable job of in using not only attracts from early European settlers, but also representation of the Native American culture that flourished here before the European invasion and land grab.
The exhibits are all XLNT & the breadth & depth of information is also. The personnel (including volunteers) are very informative - helpful & friendly !
