We took a daytrip to this park on a sunny November day. We looked at the campsites for a possible camping trip down the road, and really liked the RV sites - they were all in a beautiful setting with plenty of space between sites to give some measure of privacy. All sites had fire pits with grills and were close to the bathhouse, which was very clean and warm this cool day. The primitive campsites were not so private - much more of a communal atmosphere, which may or may not be a good thing, depending upon who else is camped there. There is a great river access at which to put a canoe or kayak into the Edisto River. It appears that across the river, canoes are available for rent. Another state park is downriver, so Colleton makes for a great base camp for a nice long paddle! There is a short nature trail in this park. The trail is well-marked and gives a tour of trees and plants found along the river flood plain. It is a very short trail, however, and leaves the hiker wanting more. The park also has a volleyball court, picnic tables EVERYWHERE, and a small playground with the most awesome two swings on the face of the planet. Egypt's pyramids will crumble to dust, the giant redwood trees will be reduced to splinters and the great wall of China will tumble to the ground - but this swing set will still stand! We had opportunity to speak with the ranger in the ranger station and found him to be very friendly and helpful - very professional. If you're looking for a day or three of peace and quiet, Colleton State Park is a great destination.

I frequently went here as a teen and in my early 20s. We'd go for day trips, floating and camping. Absolutely loved this place then and still do - its looks haven't changed! It has beautiful scenery, we've never had any issues with anyone here and lots to do between the trails and the water itself. Look forward to bringing our boys there camping soon!

We have camped at many state parks in South Carolina, and I'll have to list this as one of my favorites. It was very uncrowded even during high season. We kayaked on the Edisto River and saw amazing scenery. At night, in the campgrounded we could hear owls calling each other across the forest. The ranger there was extremely helpful in assisting us with getting our vehicle downriver for our 9 mile journey.

Cute, small park. Mostly for campers. Nice facilities and a very short walk to a river view (see posted photos).

I stayed at the park for one night and overall was pleased. It is a small park that is well maintained with plenty of space between the sites. There are several peaceful places to find quiet time and enjoy the view. Restrooms are clean and provide full services. The ranger and staff member were both excellent! My only disappointment was the road noise that runs next to the park. Several 18 wheelers went by during the night impacting sleep quality.

We had three sites for the weekend. Two had pop-ups and one with a tent. Campground host here is keep the area very clean - restrooms, swept the sidewalks near the restrooms, etc. The gate is locked at night but they give you the code. We will return here. Site# 4 is very difficult to back into - due to the trees and the angle of the drive.

The Park Ranger and the crew with the Canoe & Kayak Commission are the best people in the world. If you have never gone down this river than you have to hook up with them. The whole weekend, which is an annual event in early June, is a blast. I have done it for four years. You are safe, having fun, and well fed if you do the whole package.

In an effort to save money and have a little adventure we stopped by this state park to camp on a roadtrip from Maryland to Florida. When we arrived to the park we were pleasantly greeted by the park ranger. The fee to camp was reasonable, around $17. The park had water access for kayaks and canoes but beware a 9 foot rattlesnake was caught within miles of the 35 acre campground. We were skeptical about camping because we had driven through thunderstorms and heavy rain throughout the day but we decided to try anyway. The park ranger informed us that there were sand palettes out for us to set our tent upon. After setting up camp and collecting firewood we started our fire to enjoy our s'mores (bring s'mores supplies from home a s'mores pack there will run you about $15) and it began to rain. We hid in our tent to experience the most intense thunderstorm with heavy rain and wind only to discover that the wonderful sand palette held water! By the time we made numerous rain soaked trips to the car our tent practically floated away. Colleton State Park was pretty but if you will be staying in a tent I recommend that you check the weather forecast before.
