We did not have much time and just did a quick tour of the place but I know we will come back. This state park is peaceful and beautiful. Lots of trails and options (including horse riding). You should include it in your ‘must to see’ list if you come to the area.
We camped at site #10, very large and tranquil. There's an entry to the trail system right there and we enjoyed lots of hiking. Cell service and over the air TV worked great. Lovely, quiet evenings. The bath house was immaculately clean.Always wish the campsites were full service, but, for the inexpensive rate, water and electric were just fine.
Our family, including two teens, enjoyed wandering in the forest. We also rented a boat and paddled around the lake. A picnic area is also available. We couldn't experience all of the park in one afternoon since it's so large.
I agree with most of the comments listed by other visitors, the two campgrounds are both nice. The lake sites are smaller but I have seen "Class A" RV's on many of the sites and the lake views are great. If you have a large unit be sure to pick your site carefully and you shouldn't have any issues. The other campground has larger sites in fact many are unusually large for a state park. I stayed on 25 and it was large and level. We had friends on 17 and they had a tough time getting there unit level because it was on a pretty steep incline. The staff was great.Check in was fast and pleasant. The weekend we were there they had a horse show that lasted all day and it was fun to go and watch several events throughout the day. There is a short trail near the horse rink that leads to a creek that has the look and feel of a mountain stream. There are swings and benches near the stream that are a great place to relax and enjoy the view. One suggestion that I have is it would be nice if they installed a hose connection at the dump station that would allow campers to flush their tanks after emptying. Great place to get outdoors and enjoy God's creation.
I've been going to this place since I was a kid. In more recent years, I've camped here and taken many walks through the woods. If you need a quiet getaway that's close to home, this is a good place. There are lots of nice places to find a bit of quiet time. This is a great place for hiking in the woods, on or off trail. If you want a nice place for a picnic, there are several areas for that and there are grills you can use.Even the winding road into the place is a nice ride. Overall this is a really nice place.
if you are looking for a place to camp not far off I26 or I85 near Spartanburg, SC, consider Croft State Park. The campsites are shady. One campground is near the lake while the other is in a forest. Although swimming is not allowed in the lake, there are boat, canoe, and kayak rentals. There is a swimming pool in the summer. There are hiking, bike, and horse trails. If you are traveling with a horse, the stables are nice, but about a quarter of a mile from the campgrounds.
Lots to do at Croft, from horses to the lake to hiking. Lake restriction is no motor. Picnic area and playground, too.
We enjoyed this SC state park. We stayed in the horse loop and liked this loop. The sites are larger and seemed to be more level than the lake loop. Site #1 is very large and sites #8 and #10 seemed to be good size and nearer to the bathhouse. The bathhouse/showers were very nice and always clean! The mountain bike trails were great for hiking and we also rented a canoe and fished on the lake! The rangers were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area! Great vacation!
We enjoyed a family reunion over Memorial Day and reserved a covered lunch area near the lake. The only downside was no swimming in the lake, but they did have boats and canoes for rent. Lots of hiking, biking and horse trails to explore. The also have numerous camps sites and hook ups. A good time was had by all.
This is a typical south Carolina state park except that it is also a large area for horse riding and riding events. there are 2 different camping areas, one much rougher and less level than the other so I would recommend not picking the lake side. Having stayed here several times I can say that there is an unusually heavy amount of traffic late into the night. This is probably due to the location being so close to town. Also I have noted that the staff is not much on maintaining the rule of no alcohol. Overall a good place to stay at a good rate, can also be hard to get a reservation to the large number of events held here.
We have camped here several times over the years because we do family genealogy research in the area. The park ranger was wonderful and helpful during signup. We stayed on site 7 in the loop away from the water. It's a nice level and large site. They have taken down a tree in the site which makes it more open and useful. We stayed here in a 37 ft motor home with our tow car. Weekends are busy and full of families and horse people. But during the week it's very peaceful and quiet. Would recommend it as a destination park for families or as a great place to stay will visiting Spartanburg. And don't miss a short drive over to Glendale. It's an interesting little town with lots of history.
Camped here last summer.Had such a good time! From the horses we got to see, the canoe we rented and even had games we could borrow to take back to the campsite (corhole etc.). Can't wait to go back!
This state park is well maintained. It has a large lake, miles of woodlands, and some nice amenities. There are horse rings for shows, campsites, pavilions, rental canoes, fishing, hiking, and many other activities.
The trails are great. So quiet and peaceful. My only complaint is that the trails used by the horses can get really torn up by their hooves if it is muddy. The river views are beautiful.
pretty nice and relaxing park with many walking and horse trails. Also has a lake where one can take a paddle boat out on the lake and fish.
