I had no idea such a nice museum was in Pierre. make sure you visit this one! try to go around sunset, the view over Pierre was amazing.

Exhibits were placed very well which afforded a good over view of the Rodeo riders life. We had met Casey many years before and particularly enjoyed his part in the museum.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the Casey Tibbs Museum and Conference Center as impressive as it was, and know it will continue to grow as a destination point in the state. It has been creatively developed with bronzes, 21st century state-of-the-art presentations of cowboys and cowgirls, and gives a concise review of the history. It is evident the people involved with the Center have worked diligently and with a passion to make it such an outstanding museum.

This new museum covers all aspects of the Rodeo from the competitors, to the livestock, to the clowns, to the promoters, to the providers of the livestock, to the equipment used, to the awards won. It doesn't just concentrate on male champions. It also covers the female champions with special exhibits. It is definitely worth a visit. Good for all ages.

In addition to exhibits featuring Casey Tibbs, you will also experience other incredible displays. Exhibits include: Ranch & Cowboy Life, Mattie’s Room, South Dakota Hall of Champions, Casey’s Room, Rodeo Royalty, Little Britches Rodeo, High School and Jr. High Rodeo, 4-H Rodeo, Stock Contractors & Rodeo Personnel, South Dakota Rodeo, College Rodeo, South Dakota Rodeo Association, Great Plains Indian Rodeo, and Contract Acts.

Nice displays, I am not a rodeo fan but can appreciate one of the icons of that era and sport. New building, up on a bluff looking over the Missouri, well done for a modest museum.

This is a very nice facility. The lighting I find very bad for looking at the stuff behind glass. I attended a family reunion get together and they have a very nice facility for this which includes kitchen facilities.

CTSDRM is located high on a bluff overlooking Fort Pierre and the Missouri River valley. Even though it's a relatively new museum, I was surprised to find no one had yet added this place to Tripadvisor's Things To Do in Fort Pierre; so I did. OK, it's not on par with the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City or the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum, but if you are at all interested in rodeo history and legend, this place is definitely worth a stop. CTSDRM is mainly an extensive collection of memorabilia, awards, statues and photos of South Dakota native Casey Tibbs, nine time World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider, a record still unchallenged. There are alot of interesting articles about his life growing up in S. Dakota, how he started rodeoing at age 14, his rise to fame in the rodeo profession winning his first PRBC saddle-bronc championship at age 19 and his Hollywood career starring in & producing several movies. Also information and exhibits for other South Dakota rodeo figures: Mattie Goff, a 1920's world champion female trick rider and later ranch owner, other cowboy & rodeo queen pageant winners, rodeo clowns/bullfighters, stock contractors, judges, Indian National Finals, Little Britches, SD High School and 4-H rodeos, etc. An interactive Bronc room provides visitors (kids) a virtual experience of an 8 second ride on a rodeo bronco. There is also a large conference room upstairs with full catering services for meetings, receptions, banquets etc and a gift shop. See their website for info on hours and admission.

If you are a rodeo fan, this place is probably fun. I'm not much of a fan and found it just ok. While the collection includes some "old" stuff, most of it is less than 1 generation from today. If you have an hour to kill, it's not bad.
