We actually went for a Saturday afternoon drive to purchase a National Park pass and ended up here. We stayed! The building and grounds are in excellent shape and the Revolutionary War history here is impressive. It's hard to believe such a small place and short battle had such ramifications on our history. Super staff. Clean restrooms. A real delightful look back in history.

If you are a history buff or love the woodlands of North Carolina, you will love it. Bring bug spray! There is a nicely paved path that leads you into this wood walk through the swamp. Lots of neat revolutionary history. Lots of Spanish moss hanging in beautiful trees.

We collect the cancellation stamps in the National Parks Passport so we decided to check this out. Glad we stopped. It was an interesting bit of history and a nice walk through their well maintained grounds.

I am a travel writer who covers National Parks (npplan.com) and I was at Moores Creek National Battlefield on June 4, 2014. Located in Currie, North Carolina, about twenty miles north of Wilmington, Moores Creek National Battlefield preserves the site of an early American Revolution battlefield. An American victory, the battle on February 27, 1776, lasted only a few minutes, but it put an end to British control in North Carolina for the remainder of the war. The British soon turned their focus to stopping the rebellion in the north and didn’t renew the effort in the south until 1778, at which time they took control of Georgia and South Carolina, but never made much progress in North Carolina. The park consists of a Visitor Center where you can watch a 10-minute film on the battle and peruse exhibits and information panels in a small museum. Outside, you can tour the battlefield by walking the 1-mile History Trail. A short nature trail, the Tarheel Trail, takes visitors through a forest once dominated by longleaf pines, the source of tar and pitch used to seal ship hulls before iron boat technology came around. Walking is the only way to see the battlefield, but the trail is mostly paved and flat, so those in a wheelchair can make it around the trail. There is one short, sandy segment that having a little help wouldn’t hurt, but even solo, a person in a wheelchair can make it across this stretch of the trail.

Took a little break from beach. This is nice simple park with easy 1 mile trail that is made of rubber so very comfortable and great if you have a stroller. Nothing fancy but well kept and not to far for something different to do.

From the extremely nice Park Rangers and volunteers, to the very informative video, and battlefield walk, this was part of a great day trip from Wilmington. It's a small "park" but the historical significance can not be overstated. The battlefield walk is mostly over a rubber path, and it's very easy to see firsthand how the Colonists set up the "ambush".

I took in the ten-minute video and the interesting exhibits in the visitor's center, then set out for the easy walk through the battlefield. There are a couple of paths totalling a mile in length, part of which is on a boardwalk over a swampy area. There are informational placards along the route. And a couple of period cannons. They're modern reproductions, but they help visualize the battle conditions. This battle was significant in that the Patriot troops decimated the ranks of the Loyalist forces, inflicting staggering losses on them. So complete was this victory that the British never again controlled this colony.

It may have been different if there had been an re-enactment while we were there but we just stumbled upon it after seeing the brown sign. Even though there wasn't much to see if you are into history or just love walking you would enjoy it.

The historic trail, which is about 1 mile, was open 1 hour (I think) before the visitor's center. The trail was "cushy" and made for comfortable walking. It was an easy trail for anyone. There were also little benches along the way. Husband and I got there about 8:30 and took the walk, very nice and peaceful in the morning. There were signs all throughout letting you read and learn what took place. The signs were well taken care of and easy to read. The area is very well kept and pleasing to see. Inside the visitor's center there were more interesting things to read. There were maps all over that showed and explained the Patriots and Loyalists movements. They also had displays of uniforms and a few other things. There is no charge for admission. Great time spent learning.

This battlefield was worth the drive. Not only did we see the superbly revived battlefield with views which helped us "be there", but we learned much about the colonial times. By the time we left we understood how tar was created, why the trees were valuable to England and learned why the Scottish settlers were bound to serve in the loyalist army. The staff, particularly Jason Howell who spent much time with us discussing this and other sites, was great. The walking trail, using rainbow turf ( reused rubber tires) was great on our feet. The numerous mentions of how women contributed to the lead up & battle were appreciated very much. We've visited dozens do battlefield in the last three months & this one is among our favorites. Do take the time--you'll be rewarded with lovely nature, fascinating history and respect for the battle & park service.

Nice place to visit in the fall! Third time visiting there and each additional visit I gain new historical insight into our revolutionary war.

As a Scot I found Moores Creek fascinating, since the battle represented a significant juncture in the early confrontation between Patriots and Loyalists, sadly with my countrymen represented on both sides. As always the National Park people offer a well maintained presentation, historically informed with a professional film introduction followed by a pleasant walk round the site.

I recently took a scout troop to this National Park. The boys were able to learn a lot here. We watched the movie and were able to walk the nature trails.

I enjoyed spending some quiet time walking the paths and learning about the battles that were fought here in the past. The visitor center is very informative and had a lot of neat memorabilia to purchase.

If you like a fairly secluded park that was not crowded any of the times I have visited; this is the park for you. Historical points of interest, but not much else. Small stream and picnic tables.
