Luckily, our passengers had made a previous visit or we would have missed it. There is no gate, no ticket booth, and there was no one to take our money. We walked the path anyway, following the yellow arrows. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. We had to cross a field, so I left with goose poop in my sneaker tread. On our way out, a woman came through the door and told us we owed her $5/person for our visit. Very disorganized and unprofessional -- but not bad for a small family business. They just need better business procedures.

My family moved to Dunn last summer and was excited that there was an exotic bird ranch to visit. It cost $5 a person which seemed reasonable, until we walked through. It was small. The birds were non active, it was dirty and cramped. The people who ran it came out took our money and then pointed. Nothing friendly at all, which was a shock considering the charm of the South. I have since talked to many if my neighbors and the mention of Duffies makes people laugh.

I really enjoy going to Duffie's Exotic Bird Ranch. Mr McLamb has been raising birds for over 50 years and has over a 1000 exotic birds . They are in outdoor pens throughout his farm, as well as running all over the place. I have never seen so many cool birds. He has everything with wings. More than any zoo I've ever been too. From rare parrots to giant trumpeter swans. They hatch babies all year and many are native to North Carolina. Stop by for a walking tour or bring a group of 15 or more and Mr McLamb will show you around himself. Great for families and school / church groups and only 35 miles from Raleigh. Bus Parking, pick-nick facilities and bathrooms available. This is a real local gem for bird/animal lovers and families with children.
