This pier has been through some rough storms but always seems to come back. They are family oriented and run by a great group of fisherman who treat you like family. The fishing can be great, fair or poor but, the companionship and scenery is always a memory to take home. They also have a great tackle shop. Each Memorial Day Saturday this is dedicated to the youths who go there. Ages 0 - 16. They all have a blast.
I was lucky to visit the Rodanthe Pier before the storms destroyed it. Hopefully the community will be able to rebuild this gem.
We just went a few days after the New Year. It was cold and windy but still a great place to get a few great pics!
Reasonable prices, staff very friendly and chatting with the locals was very informative and enjoyable. The fishing was good too.
If you are a fan of the movie, Nights in Rodanthe, then you must stop by and see the house where it was filmed. It says No Trespassing, but you can get close enough to take pictures. You can even vacation there.
No fishing license required. Helpful staff, rod and reel rentals. Fully stocked bait and tackle shop on the pier.
Our first stop in town, eventually found a parking space, looking for a drink and food, saw sign for beer and snacks. We found a few canned light beers and very limited snacks on a not so clean shelf, not what we were looking for. A few days later walked 1.6 miles to pier without money, hoping to see view from pier but didn't have $2 on me. Was surprised when I looked at blackboard to see that no one had caught any mentionable fish in the month of August.
While staying in Rodanthe, my husband, myself and our two grandchildren went first to just see the pier. Charged $2.00/person for my husband and I, but let the kids in for free. They have just about anything you need for a day of pier fishing. Tackle, bait, drinks, snacks, bathrooms, etc.The pier is very wide and there are lots of benches to sit on. My hus band struck up conversations with some of the local fishermen to get a feel for what may be biting and believe me, he got all sorts of info! They love to talk about their fishing experiences. People very friendly. They do sell alcohol which is allowed to drank on the pier. Don't like that so much, but for the most part it is family-oriented.Did see some surfers parked in the parking lot, which isn't adequate, but Hurricane Bertha was out at sea producing some large waves. Luckily, we found one spot that was a tight squeeze.Husband and kids went out to the pier several more times during our two week stay and had a great time. Caught all sorts of fish, which is all that counts!
The pier is one of those sights you need to visit just to say you have been there. It is an old wooden pier that is not straight any longer due to wind and storms. We went in the afternoon. It was fun to walk out and look back at the beach, watch the fishermen bringing in the few fish they caught. There might be more of an ambiance in the evening, but parking is scarce and would have been harder to find in the evening.
Gives you a good look at the ocean and you get a real feel for the local community......its rustic, but its real!
Turn off of Rt 12 at the abandoned water park/ amusement park in the center of Rodanthe, don't be scared off. The pier is authentic beach town fun. Beer, ice cream and bait
We enjoyed fishing on the pier, but it was extremely windy and due to bad weather at the beginning of the week we only caught 3 skates. The facility was nice and the bathrooms were clean. We also rented fishing poles so we spent $22/person so it wasn't cheap but we had fun!
You have to pay to go out on the pier but it does offer nice views of the ocean. There is always someone fishing and it is fun to see what they catch,
On our way to our horseback ride on the beach in Frisco we came across the B&b that the movie "Nights In Rodanthe". It was beautiful and just the way looked in the movie. It was fun to see it and couldn't resist a picture.
Have to pay to walk to the end of the pier; nice if you want to fish, but not worth it just to look out on the ocean.
