I visited Wrightsville Beach on a Sunday in March. You would have thought it was the middle of July! I was not expecting it to be crowded, but it was. Be prepared to pay $2.50 an hour to park on the street OR you can park for free at the park and walk the 2-3 miles like I did. There needs to be more restaurants near the beach front and more public restrooms as well. Overall it was very clean and I felt safe.
This has always been one of my favorite beaches. If you know the place, it certainly does not need to be promoted.
My first visit for business and can't wait to come back with my wife. This definitely rivals Charleston and Isle of Palms.Need to explore more but the beach is beautiful and lots of parking.
Stopped by one of fishing piers this morning, just for a quick look at the beach. A local police officer was in his car, making sure we all paid for parking. Minimum amount time for that lot was 1 hr at $2.50 an hour. Big price for less than a 10 min visit. It is March after all and most things were closed. Beach was nice, but I'd hate to come back in the summer or spend any time fishing.
Appreciate this gorgeous beach! Relax, take a walk, find shells or just sit and watch the waves! This is paradise!
The beach itself is beautiful, and very clean! however, the price for parking is extreme. even for the cleanest beach.
Nice beach but arrive early to find parking. Very popular in season and especially crowded on weekends and holidays. Well patrolled for public safety and decorum.
We loved our brief visit to this beach town! Very friendly people, beautiful beach, family friendly- will definitely go back!
We love Wrightsville Beach. It is very family friendly and is free of the crowds you find at other beach locations. We have decided we would rather not travel to other beaches if we can't visit here!
The sand is a little coarser than some of the barrier island beaches, but the surfing is good and the beach has easy access from parking lots. However, because it is next to a College town, it can be tough to find a parking spot on the weekends.
Wrightsville beach is a nice little town, mostly residential, with a nice beach and a serious traffic and parking problem. I rank it Very Good because both Fort Fisher beach and Carolina Beach (just down the road) are excellent, and Kure Beach, both as a town, the home of three of the best restaurants on the NC coast, and a beautiful uncrowded beach, is excellent plus. But having said that, Wrightsville is a great beach. It's just that the beaches on the NC coast at Wilmington are all the best south of the Outer Banks. Farther south you have Myrtle Beach and others that will make you glad you stayed north of the NC/SC line! WBs biggest problem is traffic and absolutely no place to park on weekends in the summer. Understand that, and you'll enjoy it.
When we go to a beach, we insist on quietness and privacy but did not really care for the outer banks. Wrightsville is private, quiet and clean and lacks the "carnival atmostphere" of some of the more popular beaches. If you love walking as we do, this place is excellent; the beach as well as the island itself is so enjoyable for walking and biking. Love looking at the older beach houses with so much personality. The water is mostly calm for swimming although you do have to be careful of the riptides. One of the nice things about Wrightsville is that the city ordinance does not allow commercialization of the beach. If you want to shop or have your pick of several restaurants, Wilmington, NC is only a 10 minute drive away.
My husband and I have traveled every beach in NC, except Wrightsville. But our Marine son insisted that we visit this beach on our next trip to NC. So for our annual anniversary trip we decided to take the Ferry from Southport over to Fort Fisher, and drive up the coast to Wrightsville. Well all I can say is Wow! Although I wasn't crazy about the Area,(beach houses right on top of each other) and the parking is terrible. and costly. But of all the beaches we have visited on the east coast from Virginia to Florida, this was The Most beautiful of all, Friendly Folks, Amazing sunsets and beautiful turquoise waters.. Must see it again.
My wife and I went to Wrightsville Beach (off season) on a recommendation from our daughter. We stay at a great hotel right on the beach. No matter if we were taking long walks along the beach or enjoying the view from our balcony the beach was always very clean. Even the streets were clean. The people of Wrightsville Beach obviously take pride in their home place. Love the fact that the dogs were allowed on the beach (which we totally enjoyed) and still it was a pristine clean beach. Can see why this is our daughter favorite place.Hats off to Wrightsville.
Drove around the beach looking at homes, stopped for lunch at The Oceanic, and checked out The Loop. Wish we could have spent more time on the beach.
