I grew up in the area and visited it last year. It has a changed a little since I have grown up. It's not like a beach you would find on the coast or on tropical island but if you are looking to lay out in the sun, it will work. The beach is huge and has a park, campgrounds, fishing, swimming and a lot of history and historical sites. My wife loved it because it's a Geologists dream because of all the old rocks she found.

What can I say, I live here, and it's Da' Bomb! Salt free, and nothing eats/stings you when you jump in. Captain Tom, Hot Tomolly YAcht Charters

Super time to see the Dunes, Leaves are changing very few folks out and about, very peaceful and quiet!

Not crowded, casual, stress free, few people even though it was a hot Saturday in July. I enjoy studying the Dunes terrain and vegetation which are unique in the world.

We came to northern Indiana to visit the beach, it was a nice visit, and my children had fun. My husband found glass and trash in the sand, so we had to watch out kids closely.

Beach was clean..staff was friendly and there were ample opportunities to climb various dunes as well as space to bring picnic lunch etc.

E-coli present. May get a parking ticket if not a resident. Go to the west beach instead and enjoy the Dunes without the seeing US Steel.

We enjoyed the clean sand and clean air. It was a quiet mid-week day. I imagine weekends would be much busier, judging by spacious public changing areas and restrooms. It was fun to see Chicago skyscrapers across the lake.

While I agree that Ogden Dunes Beach is fabulous - it is not a public beach. It is a residential community and parking is restricted by permit for residents. Violators are ticketed and may be towed. There are also no bathroom facilities and no life guards. If you want to spend a carefree day on the beach, do yourself a favor and head to the nearby West Beach Unit of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Or go a bit further east to the Indiana Dunes State Park. At both of these locations there is public parking, a pavilion with bathrooms and refreshments, and lifeguards (in the summer season of course). The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore has several other beaches with varying degrees of amenities that are open to the public east of the state park as well. Here you will enjoy the SAME beautiful "singing sand", dunes, water and view, without first having to drive around the town of Ogden Dunes only to discover there is nowhere to park anywhere near the beach.... By the way, both Indiana Dunes State Park and the National Lakeshore also have camping sites if you are up for more than a day trip!

This beach is BEAUTIFUL! Clean powdery white sand, incredible dunes, water was crystal clear ...we could see Chicago in the distance. Very highly recommend this beach!
