Played last day of August , warm afternoon , course was pretty empty. Range and putting green are average. Front nine pretty straight forward, routed thru housing development, fairways are good for this time of year, greens extremely slow, due to heat , humidity and amount of recent rain. Any uphill putt I struggled to get to hole. Holes 8 & 9 were best of the front and prepared you for the back. The back is like in another world. Much better shape, no houses and a roller coaster ride from 10 on in. Only one flat hole on this side (16) and 12 is an uphill bear.Really enjoyed back .
My husband and I went to this golf course so he could hit a bucket of balls. We were vacationing at Lincoln State Park. It was only about 10 minute drive. The staff was very friendly. They charged us $5 for small bucket and loaned my husband a couple of clubs. It was very pleasant. The course looks beautiful. We may play there during a future visit to Santa Claus.
Outstanding course. I've played here several times in the last few years, course keeps getting better. They've opened up several holes to make them more forgiving of errant shots. Fairways and greens in top notch shape. Love this place......
Twenty of us played here on an outing. Although the course was in decent shape, there appeared to be a lot of weeds in the fairway. It may not be fair to judge this course because we had just played Sultan's Run. It just isn't on the same level.
Course was in excellent condition and the hilly terrain made for beautiful scenery. Not a lot of water or sand hazards, making the course easier than expected. Well worth the reasonable price I paid.
We didn't play golf here, however our family stayed at their Silent Night condo rentals. We rented their two bedroom unit located at 307 Longest Drive, just under two miles away from our destination, Holiday World.Sure, the nightly rental fee was more expensive than a nearby lodge, which has received lousy reviews on this site, or the closest hotel, over 20 miles down the road, that our family would consider staying in, but it was well worth it.This large, two bedroom, unit featured a kitchen, dining & living room open floor plan, with lovely tile floors. Kitchen had everything we needed, including toaster, coffee maker, fridge/freezer with ice maker, full oven/range, microwave and dishwasher. Beautiful cabinets were stocked with all cookware, tableware & flatware you would need to cook dinner for your family. The living area had a sleeper sofa and loveseat with a 40inch flat screen HDTV that was hooked up to DishNetwork television service. A DVD player might have been an added bonus, but we didn't miss it.The large carpeted master suite, included a very comfortable queen bed, a twin sleeper loveseat, dresser & nightstand in it. It had a giant master bathroom with a tub/shower combo & twin sinks. The carpeted second bedroom had two sets of twin bunk beds (our kids loved them!), a dresser and nightstand. There was a second full bathroom with large stand up shower, vanity sink and toilet.Outside the back of the unit there was a large screened in porch, with small table & chairs, overlooking one of the fairways on the golf course. Outside the porch door was a very new looking charcoal grill, sitting on a medium sized patio, that was available for cooking out. Sitting on the patio after dark was great for stargazing. Between the two bedrooms and the sleepers in the living room, plenty of people could sleep here for the night, considering how friendly and quiet everyone can be. It was more than enough room for our family of four. We discussed how easily two families could have stayed there. All of that could have been more than we asked for during our stay, but as an added bonus there was an air hockey table, ping pong tables and a picnic table in the garage, which made a great family gaming space. Truly the owners have taken their visitors into consideration and provided not only a great place to stay, but things to do once the sidewalks of this small town roll up for the day.Have to mention the hummingbirds. The neighbors of this condo have lovely red flowers planted outside their garage with a couple of hummingbird feeders. Not only did our kids love watching the hummingbirds, but it was the most hummingbirds I've ever seen in one place in my life. A wonder to watch. Our Silent Night Condo was super clean, super new & modern and a joy to stay in. I was considering not writing this review, as to keep our lodging secret, but they deserve it. I could see where some might find it expensive compared to other lodging options, but when you factor in the quality of space you get and the distance from everything in Santa Claus, IN, this truly is a wonderful place to stay and the best value for either playing golf or hitting the theme park.
Nice course layout. Condition of course is marginal for the price...oh the price...it varies dependent on the pro shop attendant...high to really high for southern Indiana. What sets Christmas Lake Gold Course apart? Perhaps the rudest service one could expect. If the course is empty, it will take 30 minutes in the pro shop to pay and be on your way. Some of the rangers behave like modern day "nazi's" toward even the most experienced player. Consider playing at Sultan's Run in Jasper, The Hill Course in French Lick, or one of the newer courses in the Evansville area. Christmas Lake is not worth the drive and the poor customer service.
The Christmas Lake Golf Course is a great place to play most times of the year and the greens/fairways are kept up nicely. The course has many rolling hills and some great scenery! Prices can be a bit high at times, but for the most part it is worth paying for.
