Make sure to bring towels, there is no patio furniture. Be prepared for your child to take a swim test if he/she wants to go down the slides. They were very strict on that. It was fun and I would go back. Pretty much what you see is what you get; a huge pool.
Having recently moved to Garden City we are taken back by this gianormous pool and how cheap it is for the residents here! Seriously--- a dollar gets you an all day pool fun day. The do a good job of keeping it up with modern slides and cosmetic appeal. The down side of this pool is that because it is sooooo very large the water is never really warm...even of the hottest days. They only open it on hot days and when school resumes it shuts down quick. At one time they used to run boats on this thing so when I say big.... expect it!
I understand it's the "biggest pool" around here. It's dirty, needs to be updated. U could see the dirt that got picked up on the side of the pool. Bathroom definitely need to be updated.
Sorry for Sage from Wichita. Your review was in December when the pool is closed. Hope your next visit is a positive experience one . Please come again
It was a great little zoo which was great to spend he day walking, taking pictures and enjoying the weather. Very we'll maintained.
The history is neat, but it’s not managed well these days. The pool water is disgusting and both times we went it had black film all around the edges.Way worse than that were the drunken teenagers drinking alcohol out of glass bottles and screaming obscenities at each other while they sailed a football back-and-forth over my family’s heads. We told the staff about it and they did nothing.
Obviously too crowded in the summer, but it's huge, safe and clean for kids and teens to play in and just hang around.
This is the largest swimming pool I have seen. Recent renovations are kid orientated and the water depth is now sectioned off. This cold water pool is in the Lee Richardson Zoo complex, with the great zoo next door, and a huge shady green grass picnic area, playground, horseshoe pits & ball fields. Come experience the diversity that Garden City is so famous for!
Yes a BIG pool! You won't regret a visit. Entry is about $2 and you can stay all day. I believe the max depth was 12 feet and is separated by areas for smaller ones and adults. The waterslides will keep the kids busy for hours.
Not open until 1 on Sundays. Very cold and not so clear. But it felt good in the heat! Can't beat the price- $2 per person.
It was pretty neat for a public pool. Had huge curly water slides (yes plural) and all but it was SUPER busy and crowded all week.
This is a fun place for children to run wild and parents to enjoy the quirky things Garden City has to offer. It's right by the zoo and museum so before swimming you can venture to see some animals and learn more about the history of this city. It's a big pool so the water doesn't warm up very fast, if at all, during the summer. There is a concession stand for snacks and a bathroom with changing rooms inside. The price is cheap, you can get a summer pass, and you do have to pay extra for the water slides.
This pool is what makes the extreme temperatures of summer bearable! This is the best summer entertainment for $1.00 for MILES AROUND! The unruly kids are part of the fun. The lifeguards are more vigilant than it appears. They wear t-shirts that say, "Sitting on ours to save yours". I wouldn't want their job. I truly love the BIG POOL!
Too many unruly kids. Lifeguards seem not to pay attention to kids in the pool. They are too interested in visiting. Showers and restrooms are outdated and not very clean.
Its is or at one time was the largest free concrete swimming pool in the United states. It is big, but well staffed with life guards and staff. The changing rooms are a little dated, but the pool has a variety of depths and several different diving boards. Located in a beautiful city park and right next to a very nice zoo. The Zoo is the best one in Western KANSAS AND THERE ARE SOME LOVELY FLOWER GARDENS AND PICNIC AREAS in the city park adjacent to the swimming pool.
