barton county historical society museum and village

The Barton County Historical Society Museum and Village is a nice place to spend a half a day. There is lots of items from mid-1800's to mid-1900's to see and learn about. This is not one of those modernistic museums with lots of plaster walls, an information plaque, and one item. This is a homey, sometimes hands-on, informational place. The main building has thousands of items displayed like they would have been used. Most of these items are behind a rope. All of the other buildings have thousands of other items that can be examined with only a few ropes. The scaled train that was at the Christmas Village is now located here behind the buildings. Rides for children and adults are available. There is no need for elevators as everything is mainly ground-level. Would recommend sturdy shoes.

The museum and Village are well worth the time . I have been there a few times and I have found it to be interesting. Right in Great Bend, KS. Next to the Arkanas river and The Santa Fe Trail.

$4 entry was a deal. an incredibly diverse collection of artifacts and displays for a small town museum. Lustron house on teh grounds was very cool and unique - not something you can view just anywhere.

Nicely priced, accomodating, lots to see, great staff
