The Baraboo Riverwalk is an asphalt trail that runs along the north side of the Baraboo River. It is also part of the Ice Age Trail. It is for walking, running, biking, etc. but no motorized vehicles. Right now, there are 3 segments, and they are not linked, though you can easily get from one to the other by using roads and sidewalks. The Eastern most section runs along Effinger Road. I find this the least appealing, scenically speaking. The middle section starts near the intersection of Ash and Water streets, near where the Class I whitewater rapids are. Then it winds past a metal Dr. Evermore crane sculpture and a picnic gazebo, passes under the Broadway bridge, then runs along a baseball diamond. After this, the path continues between the river and a very steep embankment, giving a closed-in, private feel with lots of shade, which makes it my favorite section. Then it winds around Mary Roundtree Park and ends at 2nd St. To get to the third section, turn left at 2nd St. and look to your right for a gravel drive leading to a gravel parking area just before the bridge. The asphalt path picks up again and winds along the river through lower Oschner Park. If you want to get up to the park, you have two choices. First, on your right, you will see a steep asphalt trail which you can ascend on foot or on bike (although I'm not sure I've made it all the way up on my bike - I think I usually have to get off and push - it is more fun to ride down it on my bike). It will lead you to the parking lot for one of the picnic shelters and the free zoo. The second is quite a bit farther along the riverwalk - it is a steep stone staircase that will lead you up to the playground area. The riverwalk ends at the First Weber real estate office parking lot. There is a concession stand at the zoo, though it is not always open. There are also restrooms at Mary Roundtree and at the zoo, though again, they are not always open.

nice, safe and with a view. Walk, run, or bike...just respect others on the path, pick up after your dogs and you will enjoy this beautiful pathway along the Baraboo River

The Baraboo RIver runs right through town and this path runs right along its banks. You can walk or bike on the black-top path. The total length of the path is a mile or two but you should be sure to take in additional attractions along the way like Circus World, Ochsner Park and Zoo, and downtown Baraboo. Hopefully soon we'll have the distillery open, too. If canoeing is your thing the Baraboo River through town has some nice class I and II rapids.
