This is a beautiful old building that now houses a (free) National Park Service information office about the Apostle Islands. They have a helpful short movie and a number of displays about various aspects of the Islands, especially lighthouses. Definitely worth 30-45 minutes. Just a few blocks from downtown - but it's not on either of the main streets. So you'll ned to get directions because this town is not always laid out in the traditional grid system. There is a ravine that cuts through the town's west side, for example. This beautiful is worth the small effort to find it.

This is a quaint litlle town with great people and sites to see. The view from the city to the town entry is awesome.

We recently purchased property in Bayfield and need a plat map, so we had to visit the court house for that and other information. I don;t know what I expected, but it's just beautiful. Built in 1895 of local brownstone, with high ceilings, staircases, and a skylight on the top floor. And it's still used as county offices, so you can go in and look around during business hors (everybody was really friendly-I think they're used to this kind of thing).

You can't miss the opportunity to visit this place when you are in Bayfield. Old crackling wood floors, cool art, tee-shirts, hats and tons of information about the Islands. You must see the historical Apostle Island Movie; it is fantastic! The Rangers are so helpful and kind.

We almost drove by this big brownstone. When you see it, you'll wonder how we didn't see it! It's a big, old structure built in the days when logging was king. The Park Service has a great little museum inside, that highlights the Lighthouse keepers (the Michigan Lighthouse Lamp is on display). Be sure to ask a ranger to start the movie for you -- very informative and nicely done.

It wa worth the time to see the film and get a sense of the islands. The staff is helpful. The film is about 20 minutes. The museum is small but has a light globe to see.

One of the few brownstone courthouses in Wisconsin, this gem is located in scenic Washburn, Wisconsin. It's a few blocks off state highway 13. You can find other brownstone buildings in Washburn including the public library, a church and some buildings on highway 13 (Bayfield Street).

The old courthouse is a visitor center with lots of information about the Bayfield area and the Apostle Islands. The film is the most informative part of the visit here, but it is only shown on request. Just ask the Park Ranger at the desk to start the film for you. This film is a good start to your visit to the Apostle Island area. It covers the history of the Islands, the development of the area, and the activities available there.

Great place to visit. The movie there, which is shown for those that ask, is a great introduction to the Apostle islands. We thoroughly enjoyed the film. The staff is very helpful.
