Not impressed! You simply belly up to a plank and get a sample of wine. There wasn't much of an explanation about the wines. There were no places to sit or put down your sip of wine. I do not recommend this place.
We were visiting Cedarburg for one of their Christmas holiday events and paid a visit to the Cedar Creek Winery. This wine shop was busy. A tasting of four wines was complementary. The wines were reasonable priced. I enjoyed the experience and walked out with one bottle of wine and another item from the shop.
Very cool place to visit with its history and scenery and even fairly decent wine, however its a wine shop not a winery, per se. They only have outdoor seating, no entertainment or vineyard, but have lots of unique things in their shop. The wine was so-so and the damn right outside sure made it picaresque. I consider myself a fairly good wine taster, we were on our honeymoon and I didn't buy any wine, but glad I stopped for the experience and great photos!
I am not a wine drinker but I decided to do a wine tasting here with friends. They have a pleasant shop with very knowledgeable staff. Wine was inexpensive and very good. I walked out with 3 bottles. I was impressed.
I love going to Cedarburg especially in the fall. The downtown is charming with upscale boutique and antique stores. Make sure you stop by the Cedar Creek settlement and sample some of the very reasonably priced wines by Cedar Creek Winery. Located in the lower level of the old mill it offers a wine tasting as well as a very busy store. The weekends are busy there but the staff will check you out very quickly. Enjoy some of their seasonal offerings including the Holiday Blush.
This is a nice town to visit, the Winery is interesting as it is History of the area. There are some nice Cafes in the town as and you pass through you can smell the coffee beans being roasted.
We stopped in and were pleased with the welcome of this store. Offers 4 wine tastings- by knowledgable staff. Place was busy, but they were quick and friendly as they kept the line moving.
We love going and finding new places each year. I'm glad we stopped for a wine tasting on our way to Milwaukee. We tasted a nice variety and found some new favorites.
The tour costs $5/person. For that you get a tour of their very small wine-making operation that occurs in the historical cellar below, plus numerous tastings. The guide was informative and quite amusing -- she had the group laughing out loud many times. A highlight was watching a young man get into and out of one of the big casks. Another highlight was the story of how the winery had trouble attracting a good winemaker and how they eventually got one (don't want to spoil it for you!) After the tour, you try 3-4 wines (a red, a rose, and 2 whites). There are some small crackers with cheese to eat. Then you return to the upstairs tasting room where you can taste 3 more wines. The tour and tasting took about an hour. Well worth it.
Well my wife wanted to go shopping so I went on the winery tour at the Cedar Creek winery. Our guide was from New Zealand but really knew her stuff when it came to the winery and wines. She even taught the group how to "trill" which is how to kind of slurp wine noisily to get the best taste from it! At the end of the tour she gave us a tutored tasting of 3 wines plus a couple of tickets to get more tastes of our own choice. The white wines were all made from Michigan grapes while the reds were from Washington State grapes with one brought in from France (the wine maker is French and it is from his family's vineyards there). Allow about an hour and enjoy the trip.
My friend and I make a point to visit Cedar Creek Winery when we visit Cedarburg, and go on the winery tour. The staff is so friendly and the place feels like family. The wines are top notch and our favorite is the Waterfall Riesling. A great stop in Cedarburg and ties into the great history of the town - the tour is a must to learn about the history and of course, sample the great award-winning wines and afterwards, purchase and take a few bottles home to the family and loved ones.
We have going to Cedar Creek Winery for at least 15 years and it is one of our favorites. I love the town, the people and the winery. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. Joined their case club and enjoy the members only tastings twice a year. Think their Cabernet is excellent and their Cedar Creek Gold and the Reisling are also very good. A regular stop at our stays and visits to Cedarburg.
skipped the tour went right to the tasting the sommelier was very informative about the different wines that we choose
Spent the late morning and afternoon in Cedarburg wandering the main street (Washington St.). Shops, Delis, Novelties, etc. Cedar Creek Winery is part of a group of old buildings that have been converted into shops and restaurants, etc. The Winery is part of the largest building. They offer free tasting up to 4 or 5 samples, then pay if you want more. The staff is very friendly and conversant. What I really appreciated was that none of them were "wine snobs". :-) They were honest if they did not know the answer to a question which I really appreciated. There are many wines to choose from, but only two (when we visited) that were Oak Barrel (my favorite type) However, we tried and purchased their strawberry wine (excellent cold) and their spiced wine (excellent slightly warm). Wines are affordable too ($8-$25ish).
Cedarburg in general is an unexpected gem north of Milwaukee. We've been here twice already within the year because it's so amazing and is a fun little town to explore. The Winery has great wines and lots of samples! They have barrels that you can try to climb in to if you take the tour. I almost got in but then realized I might just be a little claustrophobic if I actually went all the way, so that was a no go haha! Visit this winery you won't be disappointed. There are great little shops around and above this winery also.
