This was our third visit to the distillery. Each time staff has been very friendly and accommodating. On this recent visit we watched the movie based on on the kidnapping of the owner of the brewery during Prohibition - interesting history of Monroe. There really isn't a "tour" but there is a great tasting experience of the spirits Minhas bottles. You will get 3 mixed cocktails and then be able to sample 3 more individual liquors. If you like what you taste you can purchase bottles to take home - and the prices are very reasonable and the liquors are pretty good. We really enjoy the time there and were treated very well by staff. You will receive your tasting glass and a bottle of something to take home (the bottle changes from time to time). The price is $10 per person, but if you watch for a Groupon deal you will pay $5/person.
You do not get a tour of the distillery but you get to taste 6 different drinks. The still is in the same room as the tasting bar. It is a great backdrop for photographs. You get 3 pre-determined mixed drinks, plus 3 shots of your choosing from a list of 10. The choices cover the full range of alcohols bottled by Minhas. The prices charged are reasonable. Plan on about 45 minutes to an hour. Probably not a good idea to go to the distillery and the brewery after each other. You get quite a bit to drink at both places.
We went (4 couples) to the distillery in the morning. Walked to lunch and then went to the brewery.A PERFECT outing and great fun.. If you go to the distillery you get a nice glass and a bottle of liquor. At the brewery we all got a glass and a 6 pack of beer including 1 soda. Every beer was different. ALL FREE. We had a groupon so it was $8 per couple. A GREAT DEAL. The gift stores have lots of brews and liquors for sale at very good prices. It is children friendly and the kids all got tastes of the different sodas they make. This is our second visit......and would go again. It is great fun. Spend a lot of time in the gift shop. They are not stingy with the samples. !!!!
I had been on a tour of the brewery in the past, so I was expecting a little more. They showed videos and allowed you to look into two small windows (if you could get to them). They had multiple drinks (mixed) to trial along with different items (unmixed). My favorite was the country cream! Was very informative though.
I brought my sister and brother n law here from out of state. We went on the Monday before Thanksgiving. The staff were polite but tolerant at best. We were the only three there for the 1pm tour and we felt like we were bothering them. After we left, my brother n law commented "clearly they did not want us there". I had taken this tour before, on a weekend, and there was a much larger crowd the last time I was there. I think for the distillery you need a big mix of people because all you do is sit at the bar and sample shots and then take a quick peek in the production room. It is not a drawn out tour like the brewery across the street. So the more crowded the distillery tour the more fun it will be. We were about to leave and I asked if they still gave out a bottle of liquor at the end. The gal said "yea, but I forgot about that". She finished folding some shirts and then went behind the door and and got them. We decided no to buy any souvenier sweatshirts from the distillery.
My boyfriend and I loved this tour and tasting experience. It is a great value, with tasting 6 different liquors in mixed drinks, and they are not skimpy with the booze! and then we each received a pre-mixed bottle of mojitos. I want to go back very soon!
I actually visited back in June of 2013 and first joined the tour of the distillery in the morning and then came back for the afternoon tour at the brewery, with time in between for lunch. I was impressed with both tours being of good length and very informational. Both have nice tasting areas and were both quite generous with the gifts you get to take home with you. Also, prices of their spirits at the distillery are quite reasonable to say the least. And I love that blueberry soda!
We were not greeted by staff upon entering. The tour consists of sitting in the back room listening to the guy talk (a very nice speaker) about their history and show a movie clip, and describing their different spirits. Not a bad thing, but it should be called 'information session' rather than tour. Yes the groupon is a great deal. We enjoyed the moonshine mixed drink the best. At the end we were able to take home a tequila margarita drink that we did NOT like once we got it home. It was st patricks day green in color and the taste was unsatisfactory. After the tour, there were too many people in the gift shop crowded together so we just left and headed across the street to use the bathrooms at the brewery and browse the gift shop.
We visited the distillery after touring and sampling at the brewery. The atmosphere and employees are polar opposites. As a matter of fact, Taylor at the distillery should be fired!!! We were two middle-aged couples very interested in the spirits. We understand the cost involved for sampling and didn't have a problem with it. When we asked "Taylor" how their sampling worked, he very rudely pointed to a sign on the bar listing the sampling choices. We were not greeted when we walked in, even though there was only one other couple in the place. He and the other employee (didn't get his name) would have rather been somewhere else and they have no business in the hospitality field. Although the products we sampled were of average to above average flavor, we only bought one bottle of the WI Cream because of the unfriendly and very unwelcome presence we felt. Taylor is bad for business!
If you get a Groupon you will get the tour for half price, but even at full price, it is a steal. Lots of things to taste (6 or so drinks) and they give you a bottle of their vodka to take home. This is a must see if you are in Monroe...
We had a really nice time at this tour. It is such a deal. Tasting consisted of 6 different liquors and it was very informative. They also gave us a 750 mL of vodka to take home and the tasting glass. We really enjoyed it. It was only $20 per person but holy cow we got that back in tasting and the bottle to take home. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend taking the tour. You can also take in the brewery tour across the street.
This is a fairly new distillery across the street from Minhas Brewery. You can get a short tour and sample whatever happens to be available in their small tasting room/gift shop. This is not a "craft" distillery that makes high-end spirits. Rather it's a smallish operation that primarily markets liquor to the Canadian market. That said, the liquor isn't bad. They run the gamut from whiskey to rum to "horchata" (Rumchata-like liquor). The Blackstone vodka was surprisingly good. Prices are very inexpensive.
Drove to Louisiana to visit distillery per trip advisor address. Then drove back to Wisconsin to where it really was. After 1880 unnecessary miles and three days of travel, we still found an exiting experience. Tour was simple with a very knowledgeable host. Saw a couple of videos and were offered 6 drinks from the distilleries stock. After tour unlimited sampling until next tour. It was an excellent product (the booze) and the prices in the gift shop were low. Each person received a 750ml gift of 90 proof vodka, which by the way made perfect Black Russians at home. If you are in the area a can't miss tour. All for $10 each, $5 with coupon.
Minhas Distillery is a very small operation across the street from the larger Minhas Brewery and yes, it is in Wisconsin, not Louisiana. The tour is short as there are really just two rooms to see, but $10 gets you six samples, a tasting glass, and a bottle of vodka plus the tour. Not a bad deal. People are friendly and the drinks are great. The retail shop offers great prices--their delicious Horchata is just $10 for a bottle. It is a bit of a drive from the bigger cities. From the Milwaukee area it is about 2.5 hours. But if you are in the area, check it out. And while there, stop at the New Glarus Brewery just 20 minutes away.
Took the brewery tour and had several of the samples of beer. All very good beers. Service was very friendly and the tour was great too.
