I've been coming to the Dells for 20 years and this little brewery is an amazing change of pace from all the water parks and downtown craziness. It's quaint, clean, run by knowledgeable, skilled brewers, and boasts one of the finest beers I've ever tasted (their porter). Anyone who appreciates beer with admire the passion of their brewmaster. The small tour was free, funny, and informative. A must visit in the Dells.
If you're willing to get off the beaten path of Dells entertainment for a tasty, decently priced, well-crafted brew, this place is definitely worth the trip. The owner offered great service, a nice & friendly atmosphere, and a personalized tour. I highly recommend stopping in and getting the sampler.
We stopped in to see Tanner and enjoy some of his micro brew! The place was packed and had to wait to get a beer as they were vere, very busy but it was worth the wait. Had a great time and Tanner is just a awesome brewmaster/owner/host. We'll go back that is for sure! Great job Tanner!
Our first micro brewery tour and we both had a great time. My wife is not a beer person (too bad), but I tried the flight and had a pint of the Honey Blonde. Got a ton on info from Tanner. Everyone is very friendly. Check out all the info on their site (porthuronbeer.com) then go and enjoy your visit. Also, there is a charge for the tour, but you get a free pint after - such a deal!
My father and I visited the brewery recently. What a great establishment! We had a tour of the brewery by Tanner, the brewmaster/owner. He gave a very easy to understand description of the brewing process and was very informative of how his operations work. After the tour, we had a flight of beers in the taproom. I was especially attracted to the Honey Blonde and the Hefeweizen. If you are in the Dells, definitely put this on your list!
Got a tip from a local to check this place out and wow are we glad we did! The best part is this is off the beaten path with no massive Dells-esque signs pointing the way. You need to hunt it out yourself and I hope it stays that way.Words really don't do justice to just how friendly the folks of Port Huron Brewing are and the quality of the beer they're brewing. We're homebrewers and this is a fantastic example of scaling up. They're currently distributing local to the Dells area as well as to a handful of bars in Madison, if I remember correctly. Took a Friday 6pm brewery tour (free!) from the owner and Brewmaster, Tanner. Did a great job explaining the process and equipment for the uninitiated. He was super open to questions and just wonderfully personable and passionate about his operation. They might not do free samples during the tour but at $4 for a sampler after a free tour, this place is a steal and a half! There's no food but they do supply pretzels and popcorn for tasting. This is strictly a brewing operation with a gorgeous tap room and good on them for keeping it that way. They currently brew 4 beers (there are 2 additional seasonals in the fall/winter) -- Honey Blonde, Hefeweizen, Amber Alt, and Porter. These are all excellent examples of their respective styles. The Honey Blonde is an easy drinking blonde ale with a hint of honey. The Hefeweizen is deliciously cloudy and full of banana and spice aromas and flavors. The Amber Alt has a great balance of hoppy bitterness and smooth amber ale style with an extra something I couldn't quite put my finger on. The Porter is all roasted notes but not overly smokey which was just perfect for me since I don't normally like porters. The Engine House Tap Room is beautiful and they sell the usual shirts, sweatshirts, hats, pint glasses, and growlers. This is quality beer and you're doing yourself a disservice to leave empty handed. The other great thing about the tap room? It's clearly full of locals. The owner was working the bar and seemed to know everyone. While we were there a city councilman was bellied up to the bar having a pint and the owner got a chance to talk to him about what he needed to do to get permits in place for a tent for their big Oktoberfest release party. It's THAT kind of place despite being a bit off the beaten track for tourists. This is the kind of place you want to sit down, have a couple beers, talk about good beer with local folks and talk about your homebrew setup with the owner (that's how he started and he clearly still loves it and is a bit wistful for those halcyon days).Great beer and greater people. Get thee to Port Huron Brewing!
Got a flight of 4 sampler beers: They had a honey blonde, hefeweizen, amber ale, & porter. I really liked the first 3 & i'm not a fan of porters but my brother thought it was one of the better ones he's had. The tap room is neat and the staff is very friendly. Free popcorn & pretzels while you drink and wait for a tour. Tanner gave a surprisingly VERY informative tour and his passion for brewing quality beer really shows. But the best part about this place? It's nowhere near the touristy/nutty parts of the Dells. It's not far, but far enough to get away from the chaos to relax and enjoy some tasty local brews.
My husband and I stopped in after some wine tasting where Port Huron Brewing was suggested. We stopped, weren't sure we were in the right place - total industrial area. My husband ordered a "flight" for tasting and liked ALL of the samples. Very comfortable, sat, drank a little and chatted with the bartender. I would reccomend stopping in.
My husbands family has a lake home in the area. I found this place online by accident. My husband and I love craft beer so we thought it was worth checking out. We came in on a Saturday night. The bar was full so we grabbed a table. Bartender came over right away to greet us and take our order. He was very friendly and helpful! We were pleasantly surprised. We will be back with friends and family!
A great addition to the Dells. Just outside of Downtown Dells, so it is a quiet spot to go for a cold beer, or to bring a growler of your favorite home. Free tours are offered as well. Very friendly staff and usually the Brewmaster is also on site.
Great little brewery located in a business park, which was random. Definitely needed the GPS to find it, but glad we did. Darren and Toria were the bartenders. Only 6 of us in there when I asked for a tour (about 30 minutes after the tour was technically scheduled), and Darren was nice enough to give the tour. 6 more joined during the tour, but cool little brewery (and it has a Flux Capacitor that is still a mystery). Get here early for a seat at the bar - as we were leaving, another 4 cars were pulling in. A lot of locals were stopping in to get growlers, which I love! Tanner the owner also has a great reputation. He wasn't there during our visit, but we stopped at Capital Brewery the next day, and the staff of Capital all had great things to say about him. Great place!
Visited the brewery on August 3rd with my fellow soldiers from Ft McCoy and truly enjoyed the visit. The brew master took his time and gave a great tour of the brewery...he even gave us some samples straight out of the tanks! It was a great off day from our busy training schedule, and we greatly appreciate the hospitality. Loved the beer...especially the porter and amber.
We ventured into the Port Huron Brewing Company for a chance to see what their microbrews were like. The interior of the business, located in a business park north of Wisconsin Dells, is a beautiful bar area (handmade wooden bar) with interesting décor. Tanner, the owner, was there & talked with us for a while, giving us the history of the bar, how he got started in the business, etc. while we did a tasting & eventually picked our favorite (honey blonde) and ordered another brew to sip on while chatting. Tanner & Darren both offered dining suggestions and ideas of other things to do in the Dells area which we also found very useful. They are only open 2-3 afternoons/evenings a week currently, but he's got a great product and is growing at a very quick rate. Stop in & enjoy!
Great beer, wonderful bartenders. Free popcorn and pretzels. What else could you ask for? Nice and clean, too! Owners/brewers are almost always present, that is nice too!
Visited this Tap room several times. The craft brews are very good. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. They have brewer tours.
