I had done some online investigation before arriving here, and the representatives at the location were helpful with map and many brochures available for pickup (no fee). Note that even though we had seen the TV tourist advertisement for the city of Bethlehem indicating that things were 'open' during the week between Christmas and New Years, not all historical points of interest were open. We went on Tuesday 12/30 and were only able to see the historical attractions of the Bethlehem hotel (self guided tour-no fee), Sisters House (very informative rep-$5/person donation), Goundie House (attached to visitor center-no fee), and view the continuous history movie shown at the Bethlehem Steel Site (no fee). All other historial attractions were open only Thursday thru Sunday (fees). Shops were open of course for the tourist $. Very nice old stone and brick buildings in immediate area. Would like to get back to see other historial sites.
Hotel stay was excellentThe food was over priced for the amount you received . I ordered chicken with vegetables on the side. The chicken was half the size of my hand while I received very little vegetables. The price for this was 28 dollars a plate. . My wife had a dish of pasta with vegetables for 16 dollars. . Again over priced for the little she received
This is a "Must Visit" for anyone touring the area of Bethlehem Pa. The Museum attached to the Visitor Center is the Goundie House, one of the many historical buildings in town. I highly recommend the Night Tour Bus ....a great ride and tour guide who is very informative as far as the history of Bethlehem going way back to the Moravians. We just took the tour this evening. The bus tour is aproximately 1 hour. There is no fee for the Goundie house but there is a fee for the bus tour, walking tour and Horse drawn Carriage ride. The bus tour is $15 per person. No need for filling meters on Sunday....parking is free. Wonderful Historical stone and brick buildings nearby and quaint shops to explore along with eateries.
They were friendly. We booked a horse and buggy ride for the following day for the family. They had numerous brochures, shopping, etc...
We took this hour-long tour at Christmas time and enjoyed it immensely. Our guide, Loretta, was the epitome of a professional tour guide. The tour covers all the historic sights and is very informative. Take the tour on a clear night to be able to see the Bethlehem star over the city.
Quaint, beautifully lit with Christmas lites...this little town of Bethlehem has history, great restaurants, walking tours, bus tours, horse and buggy rides, music and decorations galore. The shops are unique and the foot traffic on a weekend in December is brisk. Enjoy your day, it is well worth the trip.
We drove to Bethlehem for the first time Dec 13 . We actually went for the decorations and theming. The town had some nice decorations, especially the Bethlehem Hotel( very nice). The town itself ,not so much.Lots of shopping if that is what you are looking for.Moravian bookstore was interesting .For us this town would be fun to experience for its history. It was cold when we were there so we plan to go back in the springtime to experience Bethlehem's rich hisory.Take the trolley to Steelstacks to see the history of Beth Steel. As for Christmas decor,go to Bernville Christmas village
Bethlehem is the City of Lights. At Christmas time it takes you back in time when the Moravians lived there. We took a bus tour and found it very informative and saw where the Star of Bethlehem is located. The tour is until Dec. 30th. Cost is 15.00 per person. Hotel Bethlehem is decorated beautifully and everyone can go inside to see the decorations. Walking the streets put you into the holiday season with lights, music and police on horses. A must to put you into the Christmas spirit.
Thank you for the review! We at Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites are so happy you liked the Christmas City Stroll, and we hope you come back soon to visit us again.
Christmas carols from speakers tied to trees, lights, lovely shops, good restaurants, etc....what else does one need to spend a lovely afternoon or evening? Enjoy shopping here after I am done with mall or online shopping. Have often found lovely gifts for friends and family here! So, take some time and visit beautiful Bethlehem, PA!
The historical material and information of the city, especially the Moravian history is what I like and i dislike nothing
The staff was very helpful giving us brochures and websites to check for pre wedding activities for guests.
Being new to Bethlehem it was good to learn about some of the history and what the town has to offer.
Barbie C.,Thank you for your honest review of our Visitor Center customer service. We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication given to you about tour tickets, site hours and general knowledge of the area. While not an excuse, some of our staff are still in training and learning the ins and outs of our organization, and we are sorry this negatively impacted your visit. We want you to know just how much we regret your unsatisfactory trip to this wonderful city, so we would like to offer you a complimentary tour of your choosing. Or, considering you live out of state and might be traveling home soon, we would like to send you a free copy of our self guided tour as well as our recently published Historic Moravian Bethlehem book, where you can learn more information on Historic Bethlehem and the Moravians. If either of these is of interest to you, please do not hesitate to contact me at 610-882-0450 ext. 18. You can also visit our website, historicbethlehem.org, to find other opportunities of interest to you.Again, we apologize for the confusion we caused you and hope you will return to Historic Bethlehem soon!Regards,Dillon StickleHistoric Bethlehem Museums & Sites
Nice place to visit. Historians enjoy everything. There museums along with downtown city stores. Many places to dine.
