Eagle Rock Motel and Canoe and Kayak rental is located on the outskirts of the small town of Tionesta Pennsylvania. The facility has riverfront access for an easy pullout. Upon arrival at the rental faculty we were greeted very nicely by the owner of the business. She informed us of the upcoming trips and even gave us a flyer to help us remember the times. The other staff members were very positive and helped us get life jackets, which are Coast Guard approved. We then boarded a bus that was to take us upstream on Route 62 to the West Hickory launch area. The driver was very informative and talked a little bit about the float along the way and some of the local wildlife that we would see. Arrival at the launch involved the bus backing up to the launch ramp and the bus driver UNLOADING THE KAYAKS AND CANOES FOR US. This man EVEN HELPED US LEAVE by pushing us of from the ramp. We then began our journey down the Allegheny River. The scenery was breathtaking with large plump trees for miles and round and much wildlife that included everything from Bald Eagles or jumping fish. Before we knew it we were back at the Eagle Rock Dock which is just down stream, embodying there " We take you up and you float back down" principle. At that point all that was left was to pull in our kayaks and return our lifejackets. This is a GREAT CANOE AND KAYAK rental business from its helpful and reassuring staff to top of the line superior service. I would recommend this rental faculty to anyone looking to float on the marvelous Allegheny River.
We stayed at the motel. They were able to arrange an early departure, which hinges on getting a driver to start earlier than usual. Our 40 mile ride north with 2 canoes in tow was fun. Don, the driver, provided very useful information on the communities, the river and some fishing tips. The canoe rates are very reasonable, and the equipment is in very good shape. If you are planning to do the 45 mile canoe trip, this is better than renting in Warren, PA and waiting for a pickup. We had 4-5 hours of heavy rain on our last night camping, and the river rose almost 2 feet, threatening to wash out our camp and canoes. Thus, we had to make an earlier than planned exit; but we had the flexibility of getting into my van leaving earlier than expected. Be careful in the fast water that is approximately 100- 200 yards before the pullout location!
Love this place! We have a cabin nearby and use Eagle Rock every year for ourselves and our new-to-kayaking friends. Ask to see the eagles nest on their spotting scope. Lots of Eagle spottings on the river, the rope swing, jumping off the big rock. Nice shuttle van to take you out to the drop off location, then it's a paddle back to your car. My husband lost his phone along the road while in Tionesta, and Eagle Rock mailed it to us!
We rented canoes and spent the night at the motel at Eagle Rock canoeing and Kayak and the owners could not have been more helpul and friendly. The canoes were great and the motel room was comfortable and clean. We spent three days and two nights on the Alleghany river and the owners gave us great maps and instructions regarding the best things to see and the islands that were best to camp on. We had lunch in Tidoutte (spelling?) on one of our canoe days and the Landmark Restaurant was great as was the grocery store where we got extra sodas and snacks. The rope swing right after Buccaloons was a blast for our boys and the islands are beautiful. This outfitter is professional, fun and friendly!!
