If you live in this area or are here to visit Valley Forge National Historical Park, it is well worth taking some time for a side trip to The Freedom'Foundation and, especially a visit to it's Medal of Honor Grove. This is a 52 acre site dedicated to those who served their country in a memorable way and were awarded the Country's highest military award, the Medal of Honor. The Grove is 52 acres; one for each of the states plus Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. It is a hilly heavily wooded area with a lovely stream running through it. Within each acre, there is an obelisk, patterned after the Washington Monument and a tree marker for each recipient, with name, rank, unit, date, and place of action. It is a beautiful place and an inspiring experience to honor these super brave military people. You may drive through it or hike. The Foundation Campus has many other sites within it that are worth seeing. It's mission is a noble one. It is located on Route 23 about a mile from the site of Washington's Headquarters in the National Park.
This place does a lot of education for people of all ages. I took my cub scouts there last year (date visited is approx) for a service project. We spent our time cleaning up the Medal of Honor Grove- this is a humbling experience. The grove is huge, and has the names of MOH recipients grouped by state (and even laid out like the states in real life). If you are a history or military nut, visit!
