Coming to Mt. Brighton after a trip to Utah may seem like a step backwards due to the enormity of western ski resorts, but it is still a fantastic place to ski for those in the Midwest. They've really spruced things up since a few years ago. I remember when it was a bit dreary, but the new management that took over maybe two or so years ago have really made it the place to be.What's even better is they have quite fantastic deals for the regular visitor, in which you can attend here or their numerous other US locations.

Took my 5 year old to Mt. Brighton for some dad time on the mountain. He had a blast and I can actually say they do quite a bit with the minimal vertical drop they have to work with. Lots or terrain parks and obstacles to make 200 vertical feet interesting for kids. Brighton is now owned by Vail resorts so its on the EPIC Pass that is now valid at 22 mountains. Epic allows you to use resort chart at the Brighton facilities and use the lifts but they are not yet integrated with EPIC Racing (its still NASTAR) and their is no EPIC Photo service at Brighton. Not sure is the ski school is EPIC as we didn't use it.

I was in Michigan for a few days hoping to share snow with my kids but the weather was not cooperating. I emailed Mt Brighton and asked if we could stop by for a few minutes so my kids could touch and play in the snow for a few minutes. The ticketing manager (Bill)invited us out and when we arrived he took us around to show us the lodge and area where the kids could feel the snow. I asked out of curiosity how it worked if someone wanted to ski. He took one look at us and knew we were totally unprepared for snow (florida residents wearing corduroys and sneakers). He could have easily brushed us off noting all the gear we would need but instead he asked my two kids if they wanted to ski-one gave a timid "yes" and before I knew it we were wearing ski pants from the lost and found and he was fitting my older daughter for skis! He walked us through from beginning to end and even found someone to give her a private lesson (on New Years Eve, no less). Mark, her instructor was amazing and my daughter gained lots of confidence in herself on those slopes. I was so impressed with Bill and Mark but truly every one I encountered in the restaurant and gear shop was helpful and cheerful. If I ever take a ski vacation, I'll definitely choose a Vail Resort. Bill and Mark are true assets to the company and should be commended for their excellent attitudes and going the extra mile for a couple of Florida folks looking to play in the snow! Thanks! On other notes, there's a nice restaurant overlooking the slopes as well as a large self serve cafe type restaurant. Plenty of warm seats to watch the slopes.

I grew up in Brighton and skied here all the time until I moved away in 2004. My wife and I love skiing and have been out West many times. Mt. Brighton is awesome now that it has been purchased by Vail. They have great snow, good lifts and hills for all types of skiers. There are in fact lockers and no resorts really have changing rooms. The food is also good in the lodge. Prices are reasonable and rental skies are also not to shabby. If your in SE Michigan in the winter check it out.
