waterloo recreation area

One of our favorite locations for longer hikes. Great trails, scenic SE Michigan views, and lots of quiet.

We camped here for 5 days in July. It was not my favorite Michigan State Park campground. The 2 campgrounds and visitor center are somewhat spread out and require some mode of transport between. It seemed to be the place that people from Jackson or Ann Arbor go to get away from the weekend. The visitor center was nice and the kids enjoyed a ranger lead bog walk. We also walked some of the trails. It is not super close to anything. We had to go to Chelsea for an ice cream treat. Chelsea is a super cute town so the trip was fun, but not exactly convenient. Beach was sub par. Sand was really grainy quality and not super pure. Playgrounds had some neat pieces for the kids to try out. Overall I good experience, but not a State Park I'm dying to return to.
