He was bad, she was worse. This is the touring troupe with husband wife Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo (former American Idol contestants). Ace (as Joseph) gave a lackluster performance with a weak voice and a painful grin of a smile, throughout the show. We had seen Ace in Grease on Broadway (in New York) and his performance was equally weak. Diana (as the Narrator) had a squeaky voice and seemed uncomfortable in the role. Both of them were like cartoon characters. The good news about the show is that it has a strong supporting cast, featuring some really talented performer, some which were show stealers. In addition, DeVos Performance Hall is a world class facility which offers a terrific venue (we had 3rd row seats). Broadway Grand Rapids, usually delivers first class performances, we saw Jersey Boys there last year (we had seen it two other times before including the original on Broadway) and the Grand Rapids Show was equally amazing. We are seasoned Broadway fans, having watched dozens of shows in New York and in touring troupes, and this was the most disappointing performance we have seen (and now my harshest review of anything ever).
Great deals on shows and their staff is just great. It's so nice to talk to real live people either in person or on the phone.
Just gets better with wide variety. Jersey Boys was tremendously enjoyable. Touring company stars are superb. Looking forward to this season. Lynn
See top notch Broadway shows without traveling to the Big Apple. Relax for an evening of fine entertainment without having to fight big city crowds and hassles. Very pleasant and easy to attend. Views are great from any seat in the auditorium. Let the performances come to you in this city of Arts & Entertainment! Then stroll through the streets of Grand Rapids for a superb dining experience or a late night carriage ride to see the beautiful architecture along the river. You won't be disappointed.
Wonderful zoo! I recently spent a full day at John Ball Zoo with my 3 children, ages 6, 13 and 17. We were all very entertained throughout the day, and my oldest daughter and I really appreciated the cleanliness and beauty of design. The habitats appear to be set up to accommodate both the viewing audience and the comfort and happiness of the animals. All of the animals looked healthy and most were active. My children and I appreciated the knowledge of the staff. There was one employee in particular that stood out, I wish I would have caught her name so that I could give credit to her. We ran into her twice, once at the stingray exhibit, and again at the special owl stand they had out for the day. It was July 30th, she is about college age and has short dark hair. She is very knowledgeable about the animals and it really shows that she loves animals and her job. Also, as a mom, I appreciated they way she spoke to both the younger and older children at the sting ray exhibit to help them understand instructions and information while also demonstrating a great deal of patience. A very impressive young lady and quite an asset to the zoo. The bear exhibit is not to be missed! Me and my kids were face to face with a grizzly bear, it was fantastic! There are so many outstanding animals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and more to see! We seen that Tigers will be coming (next summer?) how exciting! There is one walk through the woods that is misleading, we thought we were going to see tigers, not signs saying they were coming. My two youngest LOVED the camel ride...amazing because they didn't want to go on it at first and I talked them into it and it turned out to be one of their favorite parts of the day. The waterfall is absolutely gorgeous and provided me with many beautiful pictures from every level. We love John Ball Zoo and will return.
We have gone to Grand Rapids many times to see Broadway plays. We usually go more than once a year, but lately not as many. The selection is not as good as it once was, and the stars of the shows while good, are not instantly recognizable. I wish they would bring in more and newer shows.
Broadway Grand Rapids puts on awesome shows every year. Regular season subscriber. Would recommend always.
I absolutely love theater and have been to many a show in West Michigan and Chicago. In Grand Rapids, we used to get many, many shows that were on the Broadway "circuit" and when Broadway Grand Rapids "merged" with Wharton Center at Michigan State University, we don't get any first run plays or musicals; they all go off to Lansing (MSU) or Kalamazoo. I remember a Broadway touring group of Les Miserables about 10 years ago and now it is Anything Goes or Billy Elliott for the 2nd or 3rd time. Getting Wicked or Young Frankenstein would be amazing! But, alas, it isn't for us because the folks at the top don't seem to want to bring the good stuff here. MSU is attracting performances from Anthony Bourdain, Carol Burnette, The Mythbuster Dudes and we can't scare up a truly famous name for Laugh Fest this year! Pity!!!
Have went to many Braodway shows, Expos, antique shows, sports shows. Very convenient and lots of parking right across the street that is indoors. Very organized with good flow of entry and exit for people and vehicles.
Many of the shows brought in by Broadway Grand Rapids are first rate and the theatre is clean and nice looking. This one, Flashdance, was excellent!
This fine organization brings the excitement of Broadway to our front door. Soon we'll be seeing 'FLASHDANCE" and more in coming months. We thanks them for saving us many trips to NYC.
The productions brought in are your standard travelling road shows. The seats in the auditorium will make your buns go numb. No wonder every production gets a standing ovation...you can't wait to stand up.
What a value! They bring first rate shows to Grand Rapids at a fair price. Never disappointed. I can stop by their ticket office and get very personal service with no service fees. There are very few bad seats in DeVos Hall, so even the cheap seats are great.
Grand Rapids is a smaller city but they have been able to get a lot of big names in Broadway. It is a joy to see close to home.
We have season tickets, and have liked the quality of the shows. We saw the Blue Man Group a couple nights ago. It was supposed to be 90 minutes, without an intermission. After an hour into the show, they announced they had lost power backstage, and there would be a temporary delay. After 45 minutes, the President of the Broadway Theatre came out and said they hoped to have things back in another 10 minutes. If they didn't, we would be given the choice of coming back to either of the next two nights, or a complete refund. A lot of places, if you had already finished two-thirds of the show, would have said you would only get a partial refund, if you even got that. The show did start in another 10 minutes, and it was worth the wait.
