522 pub & grill

This weekend we decided to get adventuresome and visit a number of Manistee’s pubs. We were initially confused about 522 Pub & Grill, since it appeared to have recently changed ownership and name. However, we visited them – and we are so glad that we did. The experience was very enjoyable in every way.Our visit was in the early part of Saturday evening, so the pub was almost empty. That was OK, since it gave us the opportunity to chat with the owner / chef. It was great to see that he is more than just acquainted with the Northern Michigan micro-brews; he is enthusiastic about them. His selection is extensive, and he was happy to discuss them with us.We decided to get a light snack to accompany the beer, and selected the pretzel bites. This appetizer was so much more than we expected, and this told us a lot about the owner / chef. The soft pretzel pieces were lightly sautéed in butter, and then topped by melted cheese (NOT the fluorescent orange stuff that you see in so many pubs). It was accompanied by some marinara sauce for dipping. We were pleasantly surprised by this --- don’t change it!Our server was very friendly and wanted to ensure that we were happy. At one point, an elbow hit a glass of beer, pouring it onto the table top – much to our embarrassment. Not a problem for our server, because she helped us clean things up, and then refilled the glass to the pre-spill level. Very nice of her!522 Pub & Grill serves its full menu until 9:00 PM, after which they offer a “late night” menu. They regularly have a DJ and karaoke, and occasionally have a band. This is a great destination, particularly for later in the evening. We enjoyed it, and will return.

Nice intimate setting in the basement of the Ramsdell Inn; I tried the Germania and loved it. The turkey and sauerkraut on rye was nice and hot. Pricing was very reasonable and this is now a must visit whenever I am in Manistee.

Good food and wonderful michigan and craft beers on tap!! Karaoke and DHon weekends great time had by all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
