lakewood shores resort - serradella golf course

Course is well maintained, flowers are beautiful. We loved playing there but disliked the treatment from the manager.

The Serradella Course is a flat open course that abounds with flower gardens. A nice course to play.

Flat, walkable, very open. Tees, fairways and greens in very good shape. Few places to get into trouble, only 1 water carry, few traps, fair to seniors. Have never played a course without hole markers - nothing to indicate hole number, layout, yardage except score card. (Gailes was same.) Sprinkler heads were not marked either but they did have the cement discs at 200, 150, 100 and 150 stake - again, Gailes was same. Glad we had our gps. Tons of beautiful flowers, no bees (they spray). Real restrooms. Saw a ranger once. Beverage gal with just a golf cart and a couple coolers. Staff pleasant enough. This was our first time and was expecting something more like Crystal Mountain or Garland. Resort and Gailes also reviewed.

Eight males stayed at this resort for four nights on a golf package. The accommodations were adequate (2 double beds) but couples might prefer a queen or king bed. We made a good choice selecting this course for our first round because it was quite open with rolling terrain yet challenging enough to make it enjoyable. The buffet breakfast was sufficient and had some variety daily so everyone began the day with a good meal. Although the dinner special was not always to everyone's liking, there were sufficient other items on the menu that people were willing to pay the slight additional cost and get the food they wanted.

Nice course, wide fairways, large greens. Very friendly course for the average golfer. Nice variety and mixture of hole layouts day to day make the course different every time you play it.

We spent three days at Lakewood Shores for our 27th golf trip with twenty four fathers, sons and grandsons. We played three rounds at The Gailles and two rounds at Blackshire. The Gailles was a great experience. The double greens, the pot bunkers, the "mean" bounces were just about as close to links golf that US courses can provide. Blackshire provides enough mosquitoes to satisfy a whole summer allotment in one morning. The food and accomodations are less than spectacular but the golf, especially at The Gailles more than makes up for that.

After casting about for a brief summer activity with my 2 boys (24 and 26) and son-in-law (28) we decided to make a 6 hour drive from the Toronto area to Oscoda, Michigan.We were impressed by Lakewood Shores at every turn. The accomodation, while not specatular, was very clean. The small veranda facing the Par 3 (Wee Willie) was a nice touch. The food was plentiful, with lots of variety, and very good. The golf included a choice of 3 very different courses (go on the Lakewood web-site), with 2 of the courses on site (Gailles and Serradella) and the 3rd course (Blackshire) within a 5 minute car ride. The courses were well conditioned, and the Gailles, in particular, is a real challenge. It is set up more like a Scottish links course with fairway bunkers that allow escape by going sideways, or in some cases, backward only!!The staff were exceptional, and I specifically name Scott who took my initial call and remembered me some 2 months later, and Gail (oh, the hugs!!).We used the $401.00 special. This included 4 nights accomodations, 4 breakfasts, 4 suppers and 4 days of golf with a cart, and if you wanted more, go out for your 2nd 18 holes at no additional charge. I thought this was very good value.As an aside, we drove into Oscoda one day, and found ourselves at the Au Sable Inn where happy hour included 16 ounce drafts for $1.00!!We will be returning.

Good parkland course. Generous fairways. Greens in reasonable condition. Glad that they have put in the yellow tee boxes now.

Lakewood Shores has severl courses to choose from. The serradella is the least expensive, but you'd never know. Once you step out onto the course it's like leaving the rest of the world behind. Quiet and beautifully immaculate!

Great fairways and greens, straight forward course! Club house is great, took good care of us. We will be back again next year!

Great parkland course. Long off the whites, but very forgiving. Average bunker challenges, and a little bit of water on number 12, a par three. Definitely the least interesting of the three courses, but worth a round or two. I would certainly hit the Gailles and Blackshire, before playing the Seradella.

l\My husband and I just the weekend at the Lakewood Shores resort. I was leary to go after reading some negative reviews. I have to say everything was great. The Serradella course is the most friendly. We arrived late Friday and missed our "free" or included golf. The receptionist offered to let us play an extra round either Saturday or Sunday. We were greeted at the main desk by 2 very friendly staff..even the cook came by to chat. Couldn't have asked for a better welcome. Even offered Motrin for my headache!!We ate at the restaurant Saturday evening. Again, the waitress went out of her way to make sure we were pleased with everything. The special of the day was crabcakes appetizers...and they were fabulous!! The food was delicious.Our room was one of the new ones. It was immaculate. The bathvanity even had drawers! Unheard of at hotels. The room also had a small frig and coffee pot. The beds were clean and very comfortable with lots of pillows. The room had its own private balcony with chairs that overlooked the Serradella golf course and a small practice course. Many guests tinkered around the practice court in the evenings.The resort did not offer a masasge, but I discovered a local (East Tawas, Kneading Hands, and she (Debra) gave me the best massage I've ever had. Worked on the stress areas, neck, shoulders, and if I'm ever in the area...we will go back to her!Everything was great. we will be back and bring our friends.
