As soon as you step into this pub you start to feel depressed. The place was empty and very poorly lit. It pretty much got worse from there. When we were seated it took about 15 minutes before the waitress took our order when there were only 4 other patrons in the whole place! Then it took forever to get our food and when we did receive it, it was a big letdown. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and it was so rubbery and tasteless that we couldn't even finish it. The only plus side was the turkey sandwich and Guinness I ordered. The turkey sandwich was pretty good and you can't go wrong with some Guinness. However, I will not be returning here. The service was horrible and the atmosphere was almost creepy.
This is not your typical 'bar'--although the TV's can sometimes be a distraction, the interior space feels like you stepped into a 'public house' in the British Isles--a large bar side with a large bar and a number of tables and a dining side with seating that is mainly tables that are separated to give you the feeling of a booth. The food is interesting and creative--even the traditional 'bar food' items are given an interesting twist like a 'Corned Beef Melt' with spicy aioli and red cabbage slaw--they also have a number of traditional Irish items including Boxty that you just do not see in many places. In the warm months their outside seating is a nice choice. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. Plymouth has a number of 'bar' choices but if you want something that is a little different give Sean O'Callaghan's a try, you won't be disappointed.
