Visited Witch's Hat with a group of friends on a Saturday night. I'm a bit of a beer snob and was impressed with the different brews I tried. None were very memorable but a quality beer for sure. My problem with the place is that it's way too small. There is seating for maybe 30-40 people and we weren't able to get a table. Fortunately, we got a spot at the bar, for that is certainly not conducive to talking and hanging out with a big group. I'll probably go back with a smaller group and I hope that they have continued success so they can expand their pub room size!
My husband and I thought we'd pay a visit to this relatively new brewery on our way home from a weekend in Detroit. It's a very cool place with friendly patrons and bartenders. A couple notes of caution: first, it's a little hard to find, being located in a strip mall and also quite a ways off the highway. You're going to have to drive a bit to get there, but the beer is worth it!!Second, the brewery does not serve food other then popcorn, so don't show up hungry. However, it is food-friendly so you can bring your own food into the bar. The brewery does fill other breweries' growlers and will affix a sticker to them to comply with state law. Some growler fills are expensive, in the $18+/- range, even if you have your own growler, but hey, you gave to pay for quality. They do have a mug club with very cool hand-blown mugs and provocative incentives. We opted not to join since we rarely make it to South Lyon and couldn't justify the cost. However, if you are a member of the Brewers Guild, they will knock a dollar of your first pint, or $2 off a sampler tray.Definitely give this brewery a try. It's a fun way to spend a couple hours enjoying some fine Michigan craft beers.
