Made a trip through here , Was very Impressed how it was setup ! Would be a Very Nice place to go Camping with access to the lake and swimming !
This is such a wonderful place! It's not over crowded, and you don't have the boat traffic that you get at other popular lakes. The water is nice and clean also.
Good to sail, fish or ski...get on the water early to ski, or you will have many boaters out for good time. Pontoons gallore...Seadoo's a plenty...everyone having fun.
This is a beautiful marina that is exceptionally clean and has friendly staff. Its a small store but it is stocked with everything you might need for boating on the lake. Get your ice and beer here! Easier than lugging it to the trunk and boat. Or take some time to set together at one of their clean tables to enjoy a hot meal. I've yet to have them cook me something special, but have heard I should. They are extremely friendly and will help you over and above if you need something from pumping your gas to letting you use their battery charger. They not only have fishing supplies, but boats too if you need to rent one and most water accessories you could need or want.
I was very impressed with this campground. It was very clean, even the vault toilets were clean. The campground hosts were friendly and helpful. We really appreciate that this campground allows for 2 roofs on one site. This allowed us to stay close to our family. There are showers and laundry available. There is a nice playground for the kids. We also enjoyed a short hike(there is a longer one available) with the whole family. It was an easy hike for our toddler and the grandparents. We plan of having future visits.
The Pittsurgh Unit is on the south side of Pomme de Terre Lake. It's a place you go to on purpose because it is not along any major route. This part of the park has a marina, large campgrounds, and a swim beach (seasonal of course). There is also a loop hiking trail that goes through the northeast portion of the penninsula to a platform at Indian Point Overlook. This park awaits discovery by birders who will find many reasons to celebrate their choice of birding destination and will want to return to enjoy the full round of seasons at Pomme de Terre. Autumn, winter and early spring are particularly good times to visit, as the number of campers/boaters is low and birding can be enjoyed in a quiet, undisturbed setting.Vantage points accessible by road and/or short walks provide views of the lake. In autumn, you may be rewarded by coots sheltering in a cove or by loons and grebes or even pelicans out on the open water. Ducks arrive with winter's chill and stay as long as the lake is ice free. Gulls roost on the marina roof. Bald Eagles and Osprey may join Red-shouldered and Red-tailed Hawks. The oak-hickory woods, glades and grasslands provide good habitat for migrant song birds. Wintering sparrows await discovery. The full suite of Missouri woodpeckers may be found in fall and winter. Resident chickadees, titmice and nuthatches work the trees, joined by kinglets and creepers in the winter.
We had never been to this lake or particular campground until this weekend. We were invited to camp with some friends that stay here frequently. They mentioned the site next to them was available so I got online and reserved it. Wow, like a lot of campgrounds, the sites are much closer than the map shows. We stayed in spot 28 in a pop up. It was close to our friends and on top of the campers below us. The campground rises from the lake and most spots are "tiered" above each other. The sites are built up with railroad ties to make them level on the side of a hill. If I was to return I would pick 22 or 30 (in that campground at least.)Pros. Very shady, water and electric hook ups, level spots, walk to water (lake)Cons. sites are pretty close, one RV dump station, they were waiting in line to dump Sunday morning.Neither pro or con - gravel spots, decent shower house/bathroom.This park was almost full but quiet each night from 10:30pm until 8:30am (and this was a weekend stay)
We just stayed a weekend here in a great family site that was gorgeous and the whole park was shaded. There were sites you could get that put you right on the water!!! Getting one of those next time!! The lake was so clean and the beach was nice. We stayed in the campground o the Hermitage side and the beach wasn't far. The shower houses were clean. We really enjoyed this park! Go to Wheatland to Lucas Oil Speedway while there..it's only about 10 minutes away.
Great place to stay! The campsite was clean and not overly crowded for this usually busy weekend. There are plenty of electric sites available and there weren't too many unruly kids around. Pomme de Terre lake is very quiet, clean and peaceful compared to the other mid-Missouri lakes and well worth the trip from Kansas City for a nice relaxing weekend in the woods!
Great place for a day trip picnic or camping. Campgrounds are clean and sites spaced well. Close enough to Springfield to get away for a while.
A very good place to camp, fish, and relax. It has very clean shower houses and restrooms the rates and campsites are really great.
There are better places to camp but a great family lake
If fishing is your thing... this is your place. Prepare to be wowed by great fishing, and abundant wildlife including deer, turkey, and waterfowl
We were traveling with our grandchildren and had packed a picnic lunch. Since we were traveling on Hwy. 54, there weren't many places to stop with picnic tables. We stopped at a city park but all it had was a large grassy area, no tables. I saw on our GPS that we were near Pomme de Terre State Park so we headed that direction. We're all glad we did, what a nice park! We ended up near a swimming beach, the kids ended up wading a bit after our lunch. The view of the lake is so beautiful! I know that we didn't stay there very long but it looked nice enough that we'd like to go back. How fortunate are those who live near this beautiful park and lake.
My family and I love going to Pomme de Terre at least once a year! We camp in the Dam Site Park. We have been going for the past 3 years and invite more family to come along each time. The great thing about this lake is that it is never overly busy and it is not commercialized like most lakes are! We have the best time and would recommend it to anyone!
