This cemetery makes for a very intertesing quick drive thru. It has a lot of history. The roads are a bit narrow. There is a lot to see in a very small area.

There are older cemeteries in the area, but Mount Mora has probably the most mausoleums and several civil war dignitaries. This summer has been rough , it has been hard for the grounds crew to keep up with the mowing and weed work. Be sure to use chigger spray and go exploring. You may also want to visit King Hill Cemetery in the South End.

Driving through and stopping as desired, we took a good solid hour to see the tombstones, monuments, and appreciate the slice of St. Joseph, MO life and death from the 1700's through current. Beautiful rolling hills, not impeccably maintained (this isn't Disneyworld) but sufficient. An intriguingly beautiful cemetery.

I had to stop by here while we were in town to try and find the graves of some of my ancestors. It was a Sunday so their office was closed. But their website is pretty helpful with its find a grave feature and I was able to find many of my ancestors. Only not being able to find 2 which I will go back and find someday when the office is open.. The mausoleum row is beautiful in its architecture. The head stones all old and exquisite. My only complaint is much of the cemetery was not kept up well. It was over grown and knee high with grass and weeds. Making finding many stones harder to do. And being summer full of bugs and left me itching. There were also quite a few stones knocked over and not set right again. But this could be lack of budget and not the cemetery's staff fault. If you are an old cemetery buff this is one not to miss.

Pre-Civil War graves, ornate mausoleums and headstones. Wish the upkeep was better, but certainly worth a look!

Mausoleum row is a must see! Just think about the pre-civil war people fighting and how they were buried here.

Take a peaceful drive through the cemetery. It will only take you 10-15 minutes to drive all the way around and through the middle. Beautiful headstones and mausoleums.

Very well done. Great presentations. A very old cemetery with an outstanding history. Must prearrange for for tours.

Mount Mora Cemetery, one of the few in the nation listed on the National Register of Historic Places, dates to pre-civil war days when Saint Jo was the "Queen of the River Cities." The statuary and mausoleums here reflect the vast wealth of the population during the gilded age, when Saint Joseph enjoyed the distinction of the highest per-capita income anywhere in the U.S.! Enjoy a drive along the winding roadways that take you through older and newer sections of the cemetery, and try to find the oldest grave and the newest grave along your path. If you happen to be visiting Saint Jo during October and have a chance to participate in the "Voices from the Past" annual event at Mount Mora, you'll be happy you did! But get your tickets early - the event sells out every year!

While easy to find I was more than disappointed at what we actually found. I've never seen a cemetery in such a state of disrepair. The roads were cracked and the weeds were so overgrown in some places you could barely see the grave stones. We didn't even dare get out of the car. The neighborhood surrounding it is less than desirable also. Glad we went in broad day light.

We just did part of a driving tour through the cemetery. There are tons of old grave sites, including Swamp Fox who was a general I think in the Civil War. It's a pretty and interesting cemetery to go look at.

Part of our sight seeing day was Mt Mora cemetary, Calgary doesn't have anything near this old, and although I've seen older cemetaries in Europe, this was still just amazing. We couldn't drive in as an arborist was blocking the enterance, but we roamed for a couple of hours and were just in awe at the detail and the dates. Mausoleum row is majestic and that is about the only word I can think of. Definately worth the visit if this is your thing.

this historic cemetery is a great free trip for visitors or the family. you can do grave rubbings of over 150 years old. the mausoleum row is stupendous. i certainly advise at least a drive along the historic lanes, and dare you not to want to stop and read the headstones.
